Tuesday 28th May 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – A female Golden Oriole was in the sallows by Higher Moors pumping station and a Hobby flew over the airfield late evening. Tresco – A Common Buzzard and a female Pochard, still with four young. St. Agnes – 3 Whimbrels. Gugh – A Spotted Flycatcher.

Monday 27th May 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – 2 Black-tailed Godwits & a Hobby were at Porth Hellick and 2 Lesser Redpolls(1 was a juvenile) were at Higher Moors.

Sunday 26th May 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Agnes – 5 Whimbrels, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Cuckoos and 50+ Wheatears. Annet – A Great Northern Diver was offshore.

Friday 24th May 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – A Hobby, a White Wagtail & a Cuckoo were at Porth Hellick and another Cuckoo was at Old Town. St. Martin’s – The male Hen Harrier was still on the island.

St. Martin’s – The male Hen Harrier continued its tour of the islands. St. Agnes – 2 Whimbrels, 3 Dunlins and a White Wagtail.

St. Mary’s – A Blue-headed Wagtail was in the Carn Friars/Porth Hellick area, a Hobby flew over Maypole and a Dunlin was on Porth Hellick Pool. St. Agnes – 2 Spotted Flycatchers, a Common Whitethroat and 2 Dunlins

Monday 20th May 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – The Bee-eater, a Yellow Wagtail and surprisingly for this time of year an Iceland Gull were all at Porth Hellick. A Lesser Redpoll was at Lower Moors. St. Agnes – Yesterday’s male Hen Harrier was seen on the island. St. Martin’s – A Hobby and 9 Whimbrels. Read more…
