Sunday 18th to Friday 23rd December 2016 IoS Bird Sightings

2 Black-necked Grebes were seen on and off in Town Bay all week and 2 Slavonian Grebes were seen in Crow Sound. Unusually there seemed to be only 2 Black Redstarts on St Mary’s, one each at Porthloo and Porth Cressa. A Firecrest was photographed in a Holy Vale garden, Read more…

Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th December 2016 IoS Bird Sightings

2 Black-necked Grebes were in Town Bay all week, with 3 on Sunday (11/12). On both Sunday (11/12) and Monday (12/12) a Yellow-browed Warbler, Siberian Chiffchaff and 2 Firecrests were in Lower Moors. The Wood Sandpiper was again in Lower Moors on Monday (12/12) but has not been reported since. Read more…

Monday 5th to Saturday 12th December 2016 IoS Bird Sightings

All reports for the period came from St Mary’s – The 3 Black-necked Grebes were in Town Bay all week, and there were up to 110 Sanderlings in the Porth Mellon/Porthloo area. The Cetti’s Warbler was at Porth Hellick on Wednesday (07/12) and on Friday (09/12) there were 11 Dunlins Read more…

Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th November 2016 IoS Bird Sightings

The highlights were a Cattle Egret seen briefly at Watermill on Tuesday 15th and Scilly’s latest ever Wood Sandpiper in a roadside pool at Newford Duck Pond on Wednesday, 16th. Friday 4th to Sunday 6th November 2016 IoS Bird Sightings

Fridays Birds were: St Mary’s – A Wigeon was caught and ringed at Porth Hellick – the first to be ringed there.
