American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Cattle Egret – 1 with cows in a field on Borough Farm, Tresco.

Short-toed Lark – 1 at the end of Peninnis ant the western side.

Corncrake – 1 on Wingletang, St. Agnes.

Lapwing – 1 flew over the Garrison Campsite.

Common Sandpiper – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool

Purple Sandpiper – 4 at Horse Point, St. Agnes.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 1 on the Campsite Beach, St. Agnes.

Arctic Skua – 1 was seen in Scilly waters seen from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Dartford Warbler – The male was still singing on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 in the Standing Stones Field and 1 reeling on Sandy Lane, Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Common Redstart – The first of the year was a male on Bryher.

Pied Flycatcher – A male along the track from Telegraph to Bant’s Carn and 1 at St. Martin’s Vineyard was the first of the year.

Tree Pipit – 1  flew over Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Redpoll – 1 flew over Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Tuesday (21/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Subalpine Warbler  – A female which was not identified to species, showed briefly in a garden at Rosenhill, St. Agnes.

Serin – 1 with Linnets in the horse paddock by the east side of Mount Todden Farm (photo).

Cattle Egret – 1 with cattle in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Common Sandpiper – 1 at St. Warna’s Cove, St. Agnes and 1 on Maiden Bower, Norrard Rocks.

Common Tern – 2 in Tresco Channel.

Red Kite – 1 flew over Buzza Tower, then over Sandy Lane and then NNE over Mount Todden Farm.

Common Swift – 1 over Mount Todden and 1 over Hugh Town were the first of the year.

Turtle Dove  – The first od the spring was 1 in cow field along the path by the campsite on St. Agnes.

Rook – 1 Old Grimsby, Tresco.

Golden Oriole – The first of the year was a male by the ringing station, Porth Hellick and 1 near the church on St. Agnes.

Dartford Warbler – The male was still on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 reeling on the Porth Hellick Loop Trail and 1 reeling in holy Vale

Common Redstart – 1 above Redan A on the Garrison Walls.

Tree Pipit – 1 at Rowesfield, Tresco.

Yellow Wagtail  – 1 Mount Todden and 1 on the Campsite Beach, St. Agnes.

Reed Bunting – 2 by Porth Hellick Pool.

Wednesday (22/04) 

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Serin  – 1 still with Linnets in the horse paddock by the east side of Mount Todden Farm.

Hoopoe – 1 in a garden at Holy Vale (photo).

Cattle Egret – 1 again in the iris field, Higher Moors

Great Northern Diver – 4 off Yellow Rock, St. Martin’s.

Grey Plover  – 1 Middletown, St. Martin’s.

Whinchat – The first of the tear was 1 at Porth Minnick.

Yellow Wagtail  – 3 in a pasture at  Mount Todden Farm and these or another 3 flew over Porth Hellick Pool at 16:45.

Thursday (23/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Night Heron – 1 was flushed from Holy Vale and flew to Porth Hellick Pool.

Hoopoe – 1 still in a garden at Holy Vale.

Nightingale – 1 was singing from gorse at the Garrison moat at the south entrance to the campsite.

Golden Oriole –A subadult male/female was above Middle Town. St. Martin’s.

Serin – The female was still at Mount Todden and a  singing male showed on and off at the start of the Tremelethen Trail at Parting Carn.

Little Tern – 1 was on Burnt Island, St. Agnes and it or another fishing on the Great Pool, Tresco (this is a scarce bird on Scilly).

Dartford Warbler – The male was still singing on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Black-throated Diver  – 1 seen from the boat on the return from Bryher to St. Mary’s.

Turtle Dove  –1was still at Troy Town, St. Agnes.

Lapwing – 1 over Star Castle, 1 at Porth Hellick, 1 on Lower Moors Pool and on the Campsite Beach, St. Agnes.

Grey Plover  – 1 on Tresco.

Common Sandpiper – 2 at the east end of St. Lawrance’s Brow, St. Martin’s.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 2 on the campsite Beach, St. Agnes.

Mediterranean Gull  – 1 on Tresco and 1 at Porth Mellon.

Hobby  – 1 over Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Grasshopper Warbler  – 1 reeling at Longstone.

Wood Warbler  – 1 on Pool Road, Tresco.

Spotted Flycatcher  – 1 in the Dead Pine Walk.

Pied Flycatcher  – 1 Pool Road, Tresco.

Common Redstart – 1 at Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Black Redstart – 1 on Shipman Head Down Bryher.

Whinchat – 1 by the airport terminal building.

Tree Pipit  – 2 on Bryher, 2 at Trewince  and 1 flew north over Star Castle.

Yellow Wagtail – 2 were at Mount Todden and 1 on the campsite Beach, St. Agnes.

Friday (24/04)

Alpine Swift – 1 was over Hugh Town in the morning until about 09:30 (photo).

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Night Heron – A sub-adult circled the Dump Clump before dropping out of sight. It was later seen flying over Lower Moors and landed in the field opposite the school.

Woodchat Shrike  – 1 at the back of New Grimsby, Tresco and a second bird was on Tresco Heliport.

Hoopoe – 1 in the  garden at Holy Vale early n morning only.

Red Kite  – 1 over the St. Martin’s Vineyard and 1 over Tresco.

Great Northern Diver – 2 off St. Martin’s.

Lapwing – 1 was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 3 on Bryher.

Mediterranean Gull – 3 first-summer birds at Porth Mellon.

Little Tern – 2 over Steven’s Ledge. St. Martin’s and 1 at Old Grimsby. Tresco.

Pomarine Skua – 1 seen in Scilly waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Turtle Dove – 1 on shipman Head Down, Bryher, 1 in a field at the corner of Porthloo Lane& Rocky Hill and 1 at Troy Town Farm, St, Agnes.

Cuckoo – 1 flew from St. Martin’s towards Tresco.

Rook – 1 feeding in newly tilled field on Sandy Lane.

Golden Oriole –1 flew west over Sandy Lane, St. Martin’s , 1  flew past the Blockhouse on Tresco and a female on Barnaby Lane, St. Agnes.

Nightingale –1 was still singing from gorse at the Garrison moat at the south entrance to the campsite.

Wood Warbler – 1 was on  Sandy Lane, St. Martin’s.

Garden Warbler – 1at Carreg Dhu Gardens and 1 on the northwest side of Samson Hill, Bryher.

Firecrest – 1 Rocky hill.

Ring Ouzel – A female was on the cliffs at Hell Bay, Bryher, a male was at Browarth, St. Agnes  and a male was at Bread & Cheese cove, St. Martin’s

Pied Flycatcher – A male & a female were on  Sandy Lane, St. Martin’s, a female at the Woolpack Battery on the Garrison and 1 on the northwest side of Samson Hill, Bryher.

Black Redstart – 1 at Pelistry riding Stables, 1  still at Middle Town, St. Martin’s, 1 at Dolphin Town, Tresco and a male was on the northwest side of Samson Hill, Bryher.

Common Redstart – 1 Perseil  and 1 still at Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Tree Pipit – 1 Rocky Hill, 8 in a single flock by the east end of the Great Pool, Tresco, on St. Martin’s and  1 on the northwest side of Samson Hill, Bryher.

Yellow Wagtail  – 1 Porth Hellick.

Saturday (25/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Ring-necked Duck – A drake was on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Common Scoter – 1 off Carn Near, Tresco.

Night Heron – 1 seen on of throughout the day in the general area of Lower Moors and 1 was recorded flying over St. Martin’s at 21:43.

Cattle Egret  – 1 circled over Lower Moors before landing in a cattle field on Rocky Hill.

European Storm-petrel – 6+ in Scilly waters seen from the Scillonian III on the return trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Short-toed Lark – 1 on the airfield.

Hoopoe   – 1 flew west over the school on St. Martin’s and 1 flew towards Bennet’s Boatyard, Bryher.

Golden Oriole  – 1 was around Porth Hellick/Higher Moors most of the day and 1 was on St. Martin’s.

Nightjar  – 1 flushed from near a moth trap at Longstone early morning.

Hawfinch – 1 at Lower town, St. Agnes and 1 in trees at the north end of the Garrison football pitch and 1 flew west over Porth Hellick Loop.

Great Northern Diver   – 2 in the Roads,  1 off Nut Rock, Tresco. and 1 between St. Agnes & Samson.

Purple Sandpiper – 3 on Horse Rock, St. Agnes.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 1 on Bryher.

Wood Warbler  – 1 in the Dead Pine Walk, Garrison.

Dartford Warbler – The male was still singing on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Garden Warbler – 1 in bushes at Porth Hellick and 1 at the foot of Gweal Hill, Bryher.

Ring Ouzel –  A male on st. Agnes cricket pitch.

Grasshopper Warbler  – 1, possibly 2 on St. Agnes.

Nightingale   – 1 in the wooded area north of Hell Bay Hotel, Bryher.

Common Redstart  – 1 at Troy Town, St. Agnes and 1 in a garden opposite Churchtown Farm, St. Martin’s (photo).

Pied Flycatcher  – 2 still on Sandy Lane, St. Martin’s,  1 in Appletree Glade,& 1 near Olivia’s Kitchen, Bryher and 1 west of Tresco Abbey

Whinchat  – 1 on Shipman Head Down, Bryher.

Tree Pipit – 3 Trewince, 4 in Popplestone Fields, Bryher, 4 on St. Martin’s and 2 by the Great Pool, Tresco

Sunday (26/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Black-winged Stilt – 7 were at Porth Coose, St. Agnes before flying off and landing on Porth Hellick Pool (photo). They flew off at 20:21 and did not return.                  This is a rare bird on Scilly and the first record since a pair on April 2017. There have never been more than 2 birds recorded together.

Night Heron – What was thought to be a different bird to yesterday’s flew in off the sea over Porth Hellick and landed near the sluice and it or another circled Lower Moors in the evening,

Woodchat Shrike – Both of yesterday’s birds still present on Tresco.

Short-toed Lark – 1 still on the airfield.

Golden Oriole – 1 landed in the ringing lanes at Porth Hellick, 1 was singing at the east end of the Great Pool, Tresco and 1 singing from Harry’s Walls.

Pochard – 5 drakes on the Tresco pools.

Common Scoter – A female was of Carn Near, Tresco.

Great Northen Diver – 1 midway between Toll’s Island and the Eastern Isles and 10 on the Seabird Special around the Islands.

Black-throated Diver – 1 midway between Toll’s Island and the Eastern Isles.

Red-throated Diver – 1 midway between Toll’s Island and the Eastern Isles.

Mediterranean Gull – 1 on Pentle Rock, Tresco.

Wood Sandpiper – 1 on Lower Moors Pool then flew off and dropped onto Porth Hellick Pool.

Lapwing – 1 Simpson’s Field, Tresco.

Common Sandpiper – 1 on Bryher Pool and 1 Appletree Point. Tresco.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 1 on Teän.

Hobby – 1 flew from Wingletang towards the Lighthouse, St. Agnes.

Cuckoo – 2 calling from the east end of the Great Pool, Tresco.

Turtle Dove – 1 in a ploughed field below the Lighthouse on st. Agnes and 2 on wires at Harry’s Walls.

Wood Warbler – 1 on the path to Watermill Cove (photo).

Dartford Warbler – The male was still singing on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 at the end of Barnaby Lane, St. Agnes (photo).

Ring Ouzel – 1 at Gimble Porth, Tresco.

Redwing – A late bird was at Popplestone fields, Bryher.

Nightingale – 1 singing from Popplestone fields,  Bryher and 1 singing right by the path halfway down to Watermill Cove (photo).

Whinchat – A stunning male on fence posts on the coastal path below the Golf Course.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 Popplestone  Fields, Bryher.

Tree Pipit – 3 on Tresco.
