Apologies for no reports for the last month. Our glamorous Sightings Gatherer (Alan) was off the islands. The highlights were at Shooters’ Pool. a drake Green-winged Teal (photo) & Siberian Chiffchaff (photo) and the Hen Harrier (photo) still wintering on St. Marin’s. The first Sand Martin & Wheatear were seen. 

Non-bird records included regular sighting s of Fin & Humpback Whales from Scilly shores and the first multiple observer & photograph of a Brimstone Butterfly

Wednesday (13/03)

Common Scoter – A male in Porth Cressa Bay was in breeding plumage (photo) was an unusual sight on Scilly

Mediterranean Gull – 1 in Porth Cressa.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Redwing – 1 Sandy Lane.

Thursday (14/03)

Green-winged Teal – The drake was still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 in song by the pumping station at Higher Moors.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 2 at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Black Redstart – 4 at Porthloo.(photo)

Grey Wagtail – 1 in Holy Vale.

Friday (15/03)

Green-winged Teal – The drake was still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Greylag Goose – The long-staying bird was still in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 calling by the pool in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.

Black Redstart – 2 at Porthloo

Saturday (15/03)

Green-winged Teal – The drake was still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Greylag Goose – The long-staying bird was still in the iris field at Higher Moors

Sunday (16/03)

Green-winged Teal – The drake was still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Common Buzzard – 1 seen over St. Mary’s.

Merlin – A female was sunning itself on rocks at Deep Point (photo)

Short-eared Owl – 1 hunting over the fields between the Lower Moors’ Hiders and the school.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 still calling by the pool in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still at Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

It was a god day for butterflies with CommaSpeckled WoodPeacockSmall TortoiseshellLarge White and the first Holy Blue of the year. 

The male Brimstone was seen again at Higher Moors and a Large Tortoiseshell, a real rarity on Scilly , was briefly in the garden of Longstone Cottage.
