Monday (06/11)

Waxwing – The 2 birds feeding on apples at the Moorwell Allotments were joined by a third bird. 

Purple Sandpiper – 1 roosting on rocks in Porth Hellick Bay.

Golden Plover – 1 at Salakee,

Merlin – 1 hunting over Porth Cressa early morning and it or another on Toll’s Island, Pelistry Bay.

Kingfisher – 1 at Watermill Cove.

House Martin – 1 over Porth Hellick Loop.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 in the Dump Clump,1 at Higher Moors and 1 at Jac-a Ba

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 at Watermill and 1 in the Dump Clump.

Black Redstart – A female at Pelistry Farm.

Grey Wagtail – 1 by the Porth Hellick Loop Trail.

Tuesday (07/11)

Green Darner – Amazingly one of these very rare American dragonflies lingers on in a field on Sandy Lane

Little Bunting – 1+ in a field on Sandy Lane.

Snow Bunting – 1 on the grass by the benches above Sharks’ Pit.

Waxwing – 3 birds still feeding on apples at the Moorwell Allotments and 1 on St. Martin’s near Higher Town Quay. The 2 birds that were in the back garden of Blue Carn Cottage in Old town late afternoon may have been 2 of the birds from the Moorwell Allotments.

Purple Sandpiper – 1 on rocks at Porth Mellon was flushed by a gull and flew towards Town Beach.

Jack Snipe – 1 flushed from the path to Porth Hellick Pool just south of the road.

Woodcock – 1 flew across the Garrison and landed in the Dead Pine Walk.

Little Egret – 2 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Pintail – 2 on the Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Wigeon – 2 on the Abbey Pool, and 3 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Scaup – A 1st-winter/female on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Pochard – 2 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Great Northern Diver – 1 close to Toll’s Island, Pelistry Bay and 1 in Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Short-eared Owl – 1 hunting in the fields at Carn Friars Farm.

Merlin – 1 one still on Toll’s Island, Pelistry Bay.

House Martin – 1 at Porth Hellick.

Firecrest– 1 at the Old Town Church end of the Peninnis Farm Trail and 1 at Porth Hellick between the road the Loop Trail.

Cetti’s Warbler – 2 at Porth Hellick.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 at Porth Hellick between the road the Loop Trail.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 at Porth Hellick between the road the Loop Trail and 1 near the David Hunt Hide on Pool Road, Tresco.

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 still on the Garrison in the bushes behind the playground pirate ship.

Willow Warbler – A late bird in Lower Moors.

Reed Warbler – A late bird in Lower Moors.

Redpoll – 1 flew north over Lower Moors,

Wednesday (08/11)

Green-winged Teal – a moulting drake was on the Big Pool, St. Agnes and then flew over Periglis.

Little Bunting – 2 still in a field on Sandy Lane.

Waxwing –1 in Old Town, 2 in Moorwell Allotments and 2 flew east from Tresco Abbey Gardens.

Spoonbill – 2 on Green Island.

Scaup – The female was still on Tresco.

Pochard – 2 drakes on Abbey Pool and 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Pintail – A drake and a female on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Wigeon – A drake and a female on Tresco.

Whimbrel – 1 Old Town Bay.

Great Northern Diver – 3 off Tresco.

Merlin – 1 was hunting Snipe at Porth Hellick.

Yellow-legged Gull – An adult was on Burnt Island; St. Agnes and a 1st-winter was on Tresco.

Long-eared Owl – 1 was flushed from the Cove Vean Track, St. Agnes.

Swallow – 2 over Higher Moors.

House Martin – 1 over Higher Moors.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 near the hides at Porth Hellick and 2 on Tresco.

Grey Wagtail – 1 on Tresco.

Thursday (09/11)

Little Bunting – 2 still in a field on Sandy Lane.

Waxwing – 2 by the tennis courts at Higher Town, St. Martin’s and 1 by Higher Moors Pumping Station.

Kingfisher – 1 in Porth Hellick Bay.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 north of the road by Higher Moors Pumping Station and 1 opposite the start of the Porth Hellick Loop Trail.

Reed Bunting – 1 in a field on Sandy Lane.

Friday (10/11)

Cape May Warbler – A 1st-winter female was found on Bryher at Veronica Farm it then flitted over the hedge to the beach of Green Bay where it performed magnificently for the 18 lucky birders who made it across from St. Mary’s. It was feeding in the overhanging bushes and on boulders on the beach in front of the delighted observers. This is only the third record for Britain and the first for Scilly and England. This takes Scilly tally for species of North American Warblers to 11. 

Waxwing – 2 flew north over the tennis court on Bryher.

Common Sandpiper – 1 was at Popplestone Bay, Bryher.

Saturday (11/11)

Cape May Warbler – It was still in the Veronica Farm/ Green Bay area.

Waxwing – 1 was in the elms behind the municipal dump and then flew southeast.

Great Northern Diver – 1 near Great Cheese Rock off Tresco.

Short-eared Owl – 1 was flushed from the Sunnyside Farm Trail.

Cetti’s Warbler – 2 trapped at Porth Hellick Ringing Station.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 21 Chiffchaffs were trapped at Porth Hellick Ringing Station, 1 of which was a Siberian Chiffchaff.
