More non-bird headlines the AMERICAN PAINTED LADY was still in a field on Sandy Lane and another was found dead in Trench Lane, Old Town. This is the 6th Scilly Record and the 3rd in the last 4 days.

Dusky Warbler –1 still at Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Surf Scoter – The 2 seen in the last week had joined up and were seen off Innisidgen on an inter-island wildlife trip on the MV Sapphire (photo).

Glossy Ibis – 1 in a field on Telegraph Road about 100 yards north of Trewince.

Cattle Egret – 3 at Longstone.

Cory’s Shearwater – 10 past Peninnis Head between 08:20 & 09:20 and1 flew past Horse Point, St. Agnes.

Great Shearwater – 1 flew past Horse Point, St. Agnes.

Sooty Shearwater – 11 past Peninnis Head between 08:20 & 09:20 and 2 flew past Horse Point, St. Agnes.

Caspian Gull – A first-winter at Burnt Island, St. Agnes.

Great Skua – 1 past Peninnis Head between 08:20 & 09:20.

Arctic Skua – 2 past Peninnis Head between 08:20 & 09:20.

Kittiwake – 68 past Peninnis Head between 08:20 & 09:20.

Spoonbill – 1 om Porth Hellick Beach and 1 on Green Island.

Barred Warbler – 1 at Helvear.

Little Bunting – 1 in Hugh Town flew from Lower Strand towards the Lifeboat Station ,1 in the fields between Sandy Lane and Trewince, 1 in weedy filed on Longstone Lane opposite the gate to Carreg Dhu Gardens and 2 still at Troy Town, St. Agnes.

Wryneck – 1 at Helvear.

Short-eared Owl – 1 flew from Juliet’s Garden towards Hugh Town and 2 were at the woodpile by Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Merlin – Still 1 or 2 around St. Mary’s.

Golden Plover – 4 at Deep Point.

Woodcock – 1 at Pelistry and 1 southeast of St.Martin’s Campsite.

Jack Snipe – 1 in puddles just north of the Porthloo Lane/Telegraph Road Junction.

Curlew Sandpiper –1 at Great Par, Bryher.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 2 at Pendrathen.

Whimbrel – 1 off Peninnis Head.

Raven – 1 Brandy Pont, St. Martin’s

Firecrest – 1 in Holy Vale and 1 near the Karma Hotel, St, Martin’s.

Cetti’s Warbler – 2 trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 8 on St. Mary’s, 4 on Tresco, 2 on St. Martin’s and 1 on Gugh.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick, 1 at the holy Vale end of Higher Moors, 1 Bryher, 1 on St. Agnes and 2 St. Martin’s.

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 in a field on Sandy Lane and 1, probably Siberian in the Star Castle staff accommodation Garden.

Fieldfare – 18 on St. Martin’s.

Tree Pipit – 1 in the weedy field opposite the entrance to Trewince Farm and 1 on St. Martin’s.

Yellow Wagtail – 2 at Pelistry, 1 Pungies Laneand 1 in the waterlogged field behind Tresco School.

White Wagtail – 10 in the waterlogged field behind Tresco School.

Grey wagtail – 1 Lower Moors and 1 on St.Martin’s.

Redpoll – 1 behind Higher Moors pumping station.

Siskin – Still lots around the islands.

Brambling – 3 on the Peninnis Farm Trail.

Again, insects grab the headlines an amazing count of 5! AMERICAN PAINTED LADY butterflies in the fields north of Sandy Lane. A possible emergence is suspected, if so, this would be the first British breeding record. Also, another 2 GREEN DARNER were in the same fields.

“ CATHARUS” THRUSH –1 was seen briefly in the rain in Lower Moors late afternoon.

Hen Harrier – A ringtail was over St. Martin’s.
