St Mary’s – 2 female Ring-necked Ducks were still on Porth Hellick Pool and 4 Dark-bellied Geese were at Pendrathen.

Tresco – Five local birders took up the rare opportunity of a winter trip to the island. On the way across a Black-throated & 8+ Great Northern Divers, 6 Razorbills and 44 Common Scoter were seen.

On Tresco itself raptors were in evidence, with 2 Sparrowhawks, a Kestrel, a Merlin, and a Peregrine. Waders included 164 Ringed Plovers, 4 Dunlin (2 on Tresco & 2 near Foreman’s Island), 19 Grey Plover ( 1 on Tresco & 18 near Foreman’s Island), a Greenshank and a Purple Sandpiper on Foreman’s Island. Also on the island were 40+ Fieldfares, 20+ Redwings, a drake Pochard, a Pied Wagtail, 3 Chiffchaffs and a Firecrest. 3 Short-eared Owls were in the dunes near the woodpile and 2 Common Gulls were on Abbey Pool. Of interest – Lesser Black-backed Gulls have started to arrive back on the islands in the last week, there were 24 on Abbey Pool. A very unseasonal (and unidentified) Bat was flying along Abbey Drive.

Samson – A Knot, 2 drake Wigeon and the Ruddy Shelduck.
