Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th June 2012 IoS Bird Reports

Tuesday – 3 drake Tufted ducks, 2 Swifts and a Lesser Redpoll on Tresco Wednesday – The only report of note was of a very young Cuckoo being fed by Rock Pipits on Porth Hellick Down, St Mary’s. Thursday – A singing Firecrest was in Lower Moors, St Mary’s and a Golden Read more…

Tresco – A Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Swifts. At sea – Another quiet pelagic trip produced just 6 European Storm-petrels and a Great Skua.

St. Mary’s – A Cuckoo at Porth Hellick. Bryher – A Hooded Crow. St. Martin’s – A Sooty Shearwater flew past the Daymark.

Wednesday 20th June 2012 IoB Bird Reports

Bryher – A Hobby, a Dunlin and a Lesser Redpoll. Eastern Isles – Peregrines bred successfully. A family party of 5 birds was seen. At sea – Birders on a shark fishing trip saw just 10 European Storm-petrels and 6 Manx Shearwaters.

St. Mary’s – A singing Marsh Warbler by the Stephen Sussex hide at Porth Hellick also 4 Swifts were over the pool. St. Agnes – 2 Swifts Samson – A Grey Plover.

Sunday 17th June 2012 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The Eider was still at Pendrethen, a Spotted Flycatcher was on Peninnis and a Lesser Redpoll was at Lower Moors. St. Agnes – 2 Bar-tailed Godwits. Inter-island waters – 25+ Common Terns in Tresco channel and 3 Sandwich Terns in The Roads.

Thursday 14th – Saturday 16th June 2012 IoS Bird Reports

Still very quiet on the islands. Birds seen on St Mary’s over the last three days were: Thursday – A Swift was over Hugh Town and the Eider was still at Pendrethen Friday –  2 Lesser Redpolls at Higher Moors, a Swift over Old Town and one over Porth Hellick. Read more…

  St. Mary’s – A Lesser Redpoll at Higher Moors and a Whimbrel on Newman’s Island. At sea – Birders joining a fishing trip in the afternoon saw 5 European Storm-petrels and the first Wilson’s Storm-petrel of the year.
