St. Mary’s – The cold weather continued to push much larger numbers of Snipe, Fieldfare, Redwing, Golden Plover & Lapwing than is usual on Scilly, e.g 200+ Lapwing and 120+ Golden Plover across with flocks of 85 Lapwing and 45 Golden Plover at Carn Friars. 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, a female Goldeneye, a pair of Shoveler, a Merlin and 11 Dunlin were at Porthloo. A Whimbrel, a Great Northern Diver and 10 Teal were at Porthcressa. The Water Pipit & the Black Redstart were still on the beach below the quay carpark wall and 3 Lapland Buntings flew over Giant’s Castle. 4 Grey Plovers were at Porth Mellon and a drake Mandarin flew across the bay, Mandarins are no longer kept on the islands so its origin is unknown. 12 Woodcock were at Trenoweth and 7 were at Carn Friars. A female Wigeon, 2 Firecrests, a Siberian Chiffchaff and 44 Teal were at Porth Hellick, this is an exceptionally high count for St. Mary’s.

St. Agnes – A pair of Goosander ( a very scarce bird on Scilly) flew past.
