Wednesday 23rd October 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

FEA’S PETREL – 1 seen by birders returning to the mainland on the Scillonian. It was seen 57 minutes out of St. Mary’s and hence was in Scillonian waters.

SORA RAIL – 1 still on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Short-toed Lark – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1around Buzza Hill and another still on St. Agnes.

Spotted Crake – 1 still in Lower Moors.

Saturday 19th October 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

SORA RAIL – 1 still on the Great Pool, Tresco and another was seen early morning on Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors. It was first reported as a Spotted Crake but was re-identified as a Sora from photographs. 2 on the islands at the same time is unprecedented.

Short-toed Lark – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 on the Garrison.

Spotted Crake – 1 at Porth Hellick Pool.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 on St. Agnes visiting Pelistry in the afternoon.

Wryneck – 1 Borough Farm, St. Mary’s and 1 on St. Agnes.

Radde’s Warbler – 1 on St. Agnes.

Barred Warbler – 1 on Bryher.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 8 on St. Mary’s, 2 on St. Agnes, 1 on Tresco and 1 on St. Martin’s. (more…)

Wednesday 15th October 2013 IoS Bird Sightings

The highlights of Wednesday’s log were:

PALLAS’S GRASSHOPPER WARBLER – 1 was found early in the afternoon on Gugh and seen by a few lucky birders before it disappeared. This is the first record for Scilly and takes the Scilly list to 439.

Purple Heron – After not being seen for a couple of days, it was seen at Lower Moors late evening.

Short-toed Lark – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 on the Garrison.

Spotted Crake – 1 at Porth Hellick. (more…)
