Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th November 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

Wednesday’s birds were:

Dusky Warbler – Still 1 at Porth Hellick.

Great White Egret – 1 in Newford Duck Pond.

Red Kite – 1 still on St. Mary’s.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 5 on St. Mary’s.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 in the Porth Hellick/Carn Friars area.

Lesser Whitethroat – The ringed bird thought to be an eastern race was still in the Porth Hellick/Carn Friars area.

Bullfinch – 1 in the Porth Hellick/Carn Friars area. (more…)

Wednesday 31st October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

Grey-cheeked Thrush, Martin Goodey

Blyth’s Pipit – 1 was found on Carn Friars Farm but was fairly mobile.

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 was still in the dump allotments.

Grey-cheeked Thrush – 1 still at Little Porth.

Dusky Warbler – 1 was still at Carn Friars.

Great White Egret – 1 in New Grimsby Harbour, Tresco.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 5 on St. Mary’s.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 in Lower Moors.

Purple Sandpiper – 2 on St. Agnes, 1 on Periglis Beach and 1 on The Cow.

Jack Snipe – 1 Porth Hellick and 1 Lower Moors. (more…)

Tuesday 30th October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

Great White Egret, Tresco, Joe Pender

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 was still in a field opposite the dump allotments and a second bird was found at Carn Friars.

Grey-cheeked Thrush – 1 still at Little Porth.

Dusky Warbler – 1 was ringed at Porth Hellick and it or another was later seen at Carn Friars.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1 on Tresco.

Great White Egret – 1 seen on various beaches around St. Mary’s before moving to St. Martin’s Flats.

Common Rosefinch – 1 in a weedy field opposite Porth Mellon Industrial Estate.

Hen Harrier – An adult male and a ringtail were seen over several islands.

Wryneck – 1 on Trewince Farm.

Hawfinch – 1 still in a garden in Old Town. (more…)

Monday 29th October 2018 IoS Bird Sightings

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 in a field opposite the dump allotments.

Grey-cheeked Thrush – 1 was found on Little Porth Beach before flying into a garden above the beach. It transpired after examination of photographs that this was the bird last seen on St. Agnes on 24th.

Surf Scoter – It was still present between Teän and St. Helen’s.

Rose-coloured Starling – 1still St. Martin’s.

Barred Warbler – 1 still at Higher Moors.

Great White Egret – 1 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Common Rosefinch – 1 in a weedy field opposite Porth Mellon Industrial Estate.

Serin – 1 flew over Porthloo.

Woodlark – 1 still on St. Martin’s.

Hawfinch – 1 still in a garden in Old Town. (more…)
