A day for pipits with 4 rare/scarce species seen:-

American Buff-bellied Pipit – 1 still at Horse Point, St. Agnes

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 in fields at Bant’s Carn and a probable second bird over Toll’s Porth

Red-throated Pipit – 1 on Tresco cricket pitch

Richard’s Pipit – 1 flew over Peninnis towards the airfield. 1 over Normandy early evening

Siberian Stonechat – 1 still on Gugh

Little  Bunting – 1 flew from Longstone and appeared to drop in the Higher Moors/Porth Hellick area, 1 between Fraggle and the White House, Bryher, 1 on Gugh

Pallas’s Warbler – 1 still behind the Seven Stones pub, St. Martin’s

Great White Egret  1 flew over Nowhere towards Peninnis, 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco late afternoon

Caspian Gull – 1 Gugh Bar and a different bird at St. Agnes Campsite

Short-toed Lark  1 on Castle Down then flew across Gimble Porth

Greylag Goose  – 1 Porth Hellick Pool

Pink-footed Goose – 4 in a field near the top of Kittydown

White-fronted Goose – 1 in a field near the top of Kittydown

All the 3 species of grey goose above were together in a field immediately west of Longstone Bungalow late afternoon and then flew off towards Porth Hellick

Shelduck – 2 Porthloo Beach

Mandarin – The drake of unknown origin flew round Porthloo towards Lower Moor

Spoonbill – 2 Green Island

Lapwing – 2 flew southeast over St. Martin’s, probably the same 2 flew over Telegraph towards Porthloo and landing in a field about 100 metres from Normandy 

Jack Snipe – 2 Porth Hellick, 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco 

Mediterranean Gull – 38 Tresco Channel

Yellow-legged Gull – 1 off Porth Hellick

Great Skua – 1 from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s

Pomarine Skua – 1 from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s

Short-eared Owl – 1 in trees below Harry’s Walls, 1 near the Tennis court on Bryher

Great spotted Woodpecker – 1 Holy Vale

Merlin – 2 over Porthloo in the evening, 1 at Horse Point, St. Agnes

Red-backed Shrike – 1 still behind Longstone Lodge

Hooded Crow – 1 Stinking Porth, Bryher

Raven – 1 Peninnis lighthouse

Skylark – 2 on the airfield, 3 on St. Martin’s

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 Lower Moors

Yellow-browed Warbler –   16 St. Mary’s, 2 St. Agnes, 1 Tresco, 1 Bryher and 1 St. Martin’s 

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 on the Peninnis Farm Trail

Dartford Warbler – 1 on Bryher

Firecrest – 2 around Old Town Churchyard, 2 Carreg Dhu Gardens, 1 Dump Clump, 1 Holy Vale, 1 Sandy Lane, 1 Carn Gwaval

Ring Ouzel – 2 in the gorse by Peninnis allotments, 1 on the east side of the Golf Course, 1 in a cow field behind Porth Hellick, 1 Lower Town, St. Martin’s, 1 by the Dump area, Bryher

Redwing – Still around but numbers down on yesterday

Fieldfare – 100+ St. Mary’s

Nightingale – 1 still at Little Porth

Pied Flycatcher – 1 St. Martin’s 

Red-breasted Flycatcher – 1 near Carn Gwaval, 1 Porth Hellick Loop, 1 still behind the Seven Stones pub, St. Martin’s

Black Redstart – 1 Buzza Tower, 1 at Little Porth, 1 on Church Road, 1 Lunnon, 3 Porthloo Beach, 1 Carn Gwaval, 1 on the rocks below Peninnis lighthouse, 1 Porth Mellon, 1 Porth Cressa, 1 Borough Farm St. Mary’s, 1 Pelistry, 3 Periglis, St. Agnes, 1 on the St. Agnes, boat between the islands, 2 Castle Down, Tresco

Redstart –1 at the start of the driveway to Peninnis House

Whinchat – 1 Bryher

Grey Wagtail – 1 Peninnis

White Wagtail – 1 Porthloo Beach

Brambling – 1 on King Edward’s Road, Peninnis, 1 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors

Siskin – 2 Peninnis, 1 Pelistry Riding Stables

Crossbill – 6 Porth Hellick, 6 over Newford Duck Pond

Snow Bunting – 1 still below Peninnis lighthouse
