Lingering rarities from November included the Green-winged Teal at Porth Hellick Pool and the Sabines gull at Little Porth. The Black-necked Grebe and Long-tailed Duck were still at Tresco on the 1st and a Firecrest was at Porth Hellick Loop on the 3rd. (more…)
The Olive-backed Pipit remained at Sunnyside trail on the 1st of the month and the Bluethroat was reported from the Rosehill end of the Lower Moors trail. Yellow-browed warblers were at Porth Hellick Loop and Shooters Pool and the Siberian Chiffchaff was at Higher Moors. (more…)
October 2009 will no doubt class in many birders minds as one of the worst Scilly seasons on record as far as rare birds are concerned. The beauty of the islands and the great atmosphere that is experienced annually at this time of year though, still makes the journey to the Scillys worth while and whilst there were no ‘megas’ there were still plenty of scarce migrants to keep you ‘ticking over’.
