Red-footed Flacon (Kriss Webb)
Saturday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The Night Heron flew from Porth Hellick towards Holy Vale and a Marsh Harrier flew over Porth Hellick. 3 Turtle Doves were near the dump and 2 European Storm-petrels were trapped and ringed at Deep Point between 23:00 and midnight.
Bryher – A Red-rumped Swallow was on the southeast side of Samson Hill in the morning. This was the 6th for Scilly this spring.
Tresco – A Red-rumped Swallow, more than likely, the Bryher bird, was over the Great Pool in the afternoon. A Whimbrel was also seen on the island.
Sunday’s bird was:
St. Mary’s – The adult Night Heron was seen at Porth Hellick in the morning.
Monday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The adult Night Heron was at Porth Hellick in the morning and it was joined by a second-summer bird at dusk. A Golden Oriole was at Watermill Lane and a Red-rumped Swallow was at Lower Moors in the evening, later moving to Porth Hellick. A Marsh Harrier flew from St. Mary’s to Tresco.
Tresco – The Red-rumped Swallow was still over the Great Pool. Also on the island 2 Common Pochards and a Common Buzzard.
Annet – 80+ Manx Shearwaters were seen near the island.
At sea – The first short-range pelagic trip of the year produced 20 European Storm-petrels, an Ocean Sunfish and a Blue Shark.
