Wednesday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – A Hoopoe was near the lighthouse on Peninnis, the Black-necked Grebe was still in Porthcressa Bay and a Lapland Bunting was in the quarry at Deep Point. A Sparrowhawk was over Rocky Hills, a Pied Flycatcher and 2 Whinchats were in Lower Moor. A second-winter Mediterranean Gull was on rocks at Porthcressa and a Whinchat was in Old Town.
St. Agnes – A Lapland Bunting and 2 Yellow Wagtails. The Lesser Yellowlegs was still on the big Pool.
Bryher – A Common Rosefinch, 2 Lapland Buntings, a Hooded Crow, 5 Spotted Flycatchers and 15 Whinchats.
Tresco – The Woodchat Shrike was still near the old Heliport.
Thursday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The first 2 Yellow-browed Warblers of the autumn were seen, one at Newford Duck Pond and in the pines on the eastern side of the Golf Course. Single Wrynecks were on Peninnis, at Carn Friars and at Bant’s Carn. 2 Mediterranean Gulls, a Common Gull and the Black-necked Grebe were at Porthcressa. A Grey Phalarope was below Giant’s Castle, 2 Whinchats were at Lower Moors, a Spotted Flycatcher was on the Garrison, a Pied Flycatcher was at Newford Duck Pond and a Lapland Bunting flew over the Airfield.
St. Agnes – The Lesser Yellowlegs was still on the big Pool and a Wryneck was at Browarth.
Tresco – A Common Redstart and a Pied Flycatcher.
St. Martin’s – 2 Spotted Flycatchers and 2 Whinchats.
Teän – A Little Stint and 2 Mediterranean Gulls.
At sea – The evening pelagic trip produced 2 Balearic Shearwaters, a Great Skua, an Arctic Skua and 4 European Storm-petrels. Seen in the water were: a Leatherback Turtle, a Minke Whale and 5 Blue Sharks which were caught, tagged & released.
Friday’s birds were:
St. Mary’s – The Black-necked Grebe was still in Porthcressa Bay, the Yellow-browed Warbler & the Pied Flycatcher were still at Newford Duck Pond and 3 Whinchats were in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors with another on the Garrison. Single Wrynecks were in Deep Point Quarry and at Bant’s Carn.
St. Agnes – The Lesser Yellowlegs was still on the Big Pool. 2 Red-breasted Flycatchers, the first of the autumn were on the island, one at Covean and one at Lower Town Farm.
St. Martin’s – A Knot and a Sparrowhawk.
At sea – 4 Grey Phalaropes, a Cory’s and a Balearic Shearwater were seen from the Scillonian III on the return crossing from St. Mary’s to Penzance.
