Birders lucky enough to be on the short-range evening pelagic trip on the 3rd experienced the best ever Scilly pelagic. A shoal of about 20 Bluefin Tuna were hunting and the waters and skies around then were filled with huge numbers of Shearwaters: 750+ Great, 250+ Cory’s, 350+ Sooty, 3 Balearic and 3000+ Manx Shearwaters were in a feeding frenzy. Also seen were 15+ Wilson’s Storm-petrels, 150 European Storm-petrels, 5 Great Skuas and 8 Arctic Terns

Wednesday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – 27 Cory’s Shearwaters flew past Deep Point between 17:20 and 18:50. 10 Greenshanks were on Porth Hellick Pool.

Tuesday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – 8 Cory’s Shearwaters flew past Deep Point.

At sea – 3 Wilson’s Storm-petrels, 100+ Cory’s, 80+ Great, 60+ Sooty and 3 Balearic Shearwaters were seen from the Scillonian III at 17:30 on the crossing from St. Mary’s to Penzance.
