Buff-breasted Sandpiper (J.Pender)

Saturday’s birds were:

St, Mary’s – The Semi-palmated Sandpiper was still on Porth Hellick Pool, where there were also 14 Teal, 2+ Water Rails, 10 Common Snipe,11 Greenshanks and a Kingfisher. The Wryneck was still on rocks near Giant’s Castle and a Whinchat was at Lower Moors. A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was found on the airfield in the afternoon.

Tresco – 7 Little Egrets, a Pied Flycatcher and 2 Spotted Flycatchers.

At sea – 5 Sooty Shearwaters and 2 adult Sabine’s Gull were seen within Scillonian waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Sunday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – The Semi-palmated Sandpiper & the Spotted Crake were still on Porth Hellick Pool, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper was still on the airfield and 3 Northern Wheatears were still at Giant’s Castle.

Tresco – A Wood Sandpiper, 18 Greenshanks, 4 Redshanks and a Kingfisher were on the Great Pool.

At sea – A Great Shearwater and a Sooty Shearwater were seen from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.
