Wednesday 11th June 2014 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – Cuckoos were at Porth Hellick, Mount Todden and Lower Moors. Tresco – A juvenile Iceland Gull and a female Pochard with 6 young (Pochard are only sporadic breeders on Scilly).

St. Marys – A Turtle Dove was at Salakee. St. Agnes – A Turtle Dove and 3 Ravens

Monday 9th June 2014 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Marys – A Cuckoo was at Salakee. Tresco – A juvenile Iceland Gull, a Pochard, a Common Buzzard and a Common Swift. St. Agnes – A Golden Plover. Annet – 350 Manx Shearwaters were seen offshore in the evening.

St. Mary’s – The female Hawfinch was in the pine belt on Sandy Lane. St. Agnes – A Common Swift. Gugh – A female Woodchat Shrike. Tresco – 9 Whimbrels and a Hobby. Samson – A Whimbrel

St. Mary’s – A Swift was at Telegraph and Cuckoos were at Salakee & Mount Todden Bryher – A Hobby, 2 Turtle Doves and a singing Golden Oriole

St. Mary’s – The female Hawfinch that is on the island at the moment was in Lower Moors. At sea – A Balearic Shearwater was seen from the Scillonian

St. Mary’s – A Cuckoo on Porth Hellick Down. Tresco – 13 Whimbrels, a Common Buzzard and a Cuckoo

St Mary’s – Rose-coloured Starling (ad) in garden at Church Street in Hugh Town. Bryher – The Hooded Crow still present

Tusday 3rd June 2014 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Mary’s – The female Hawfinch was again in the trees between Porth Hellick and Carn Friars Farm. St. Agnes – A Whimbrel, a Cuckoo and 7 Wheatears. Samson – A Great Northern Diver off-shore.

Monday 2nd June 2014 IoS Bird Sightings

Bryher – 4 Wheatears and a Cuckoo. Tresco – A Whimbrel. At sea – 40+ Common Terns and 200+ Manx shearwaters were off Annet. 15+ European Storm-petrels and 3 Great Skuas were seen on a short-range pelagic trip.
