Monday (13/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Garganey – A drake was again briefly Porth Hellick Pool in the morning then flew low north (photo). It re-appeared on the pool in the late evening.

Black-throated Diver – 1 at the south end of Great Bay, St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in the Roads.

Hoopoe  – 1 in a field at Perpitch, St. Agnes.

Dartford Warbler  – The male was still singing on St. Martin’s.

Jack Snipe  – 1 was flushed from the path at Higher Moors.

Merlin  – An immature male was at Porth Coose, St. Agnes and 1 on Bryher.

Lesser Whitethroat  – 1 was at Higher Town, St. Agnes

Tuesday (14/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Garganey – The drake was back on Porth Hellick Pool for 15 minutes in the afternoon before again flying off north. It was relocated 2 hours later on a pool in a field by the entrance to the north end of Holy Vale.

Whimbrel – 1 Porth Hellick Bay.

Wednesday (15/04) 

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Garganey – The drake was back on Porth Hellick Pool late evening.

Cattle Egret – 1 on Simpson’s Field, Tresco.

Common Sandpiper – 1 Porthloo.

Common Tern – The first of the year was 1 on  Burnt Island. St. Agnes.

Thursday (16/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Cattle Egret – 1 still on Simpson’s Field, Tresco.

Common Sandpiper – 1 Watermill.

Common Gull – 1 Porthloo

Hobby – 1 over Telegraph.

Redwing – 2 late birds in the field opposite Mount Todden Farmhouse.

Friday (17/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Hoopoe  – 1 on the heathland above Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Garden Warbler – The first of the year, was 1 singing from the bushes by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Saturday (18/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Short-toed Lark – 1 was found in the evening at Deep Point.

Hoopoe  – 1 in the area around the north end of Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Dartford Warbler  – 1 still by the track to the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Cuckoo – 1 was at Longstone and 1 calling in the Abbey Gardens, Tresco.

Golden Plover  – 2 Golden Plover flew east over the airfield.

Common Sandpiper  – 1 at Pelistry.

Common Whitethroat – 1 was by the dump on St. Martin’s.

Redwing  – 1 at Mount Todden.

Whit Wagtail – 1 at Mount Todden.

Sunday (19/04)

American Wigeon  – The first-winter drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Short-toed Lark – 1 was still at Deep Point (photo) and also seen at by the Porth Hellick Down burial chamber.

Hawfinch  – 1 flew low over Telegraph corner.

Dartford Warbler  – 1 still by the track to the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Grasshopper Warbler  – 1 reeling in the pines behind the Duchy House on the Garrison.

Common Scoter  – 5 off Great Ganinick, Eastern Isles.

Great Northern Diver  – 7+ off Great Ganinick, Eastern Isles.

Golden Plover – 1 flew west over Telegraph corner. 

Purple Sandpiper  – 30+ on Bishop Rock/

Lapwing  – 1 was on Porth Hellick Beach and it or another flew over Old Town towards Porthloo.

Marsh Harrier  – 1 was over South Hill, Samson.

Cuckoo – 1 at Telegraph corner, 1 calling at Helvear, 1 at Flagstaff Hill, St. Martin’s and 1 calling by the Monument on Tresco.

Rook – 1 flew north over Newford.

Jackdaw  – 2 on the airfield, 1 flew over Porth Hellick Pool and 1 flew high over Troy Town campsite, St. Agnes.

Wood Warbler – 1 in a sycamore in front of the house named Hanjaque at the Sunnyside end of Rocky Hill Lane (photo).
