Friday (01/09)

Red-footed Booby – Birders on the boat that met the Scillonian, this time struck lucky. The bird was picked up in flight, chased and lost but ended up back on Bishop Rock Lighthouse.

Scopoli’s Shearwater – A ‘possible’ was seen in Scilly waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Cory’s Shearwater – 50+ near the Bishop Rock on the morning booby trip and 40 lingering off Giant’s Castle.

Great Shearwater – 1 flew west past Giant’s Castle.

Honey Buzzard – 2 flew in over Telegraph over St. Mary’s then across to Gugh and St. Agnes.

Woodchat Shrike – The juvenile was still 0n the eastern end of the eastern runway and the bird on Sandy Lane was seen again.

Red-backed Shrike – A juvenile in Salakee Fields below the pine belt.

Ruff – 1 still on Tresco Heliport.

Common Swift – 1 over Longstone.

Common Whitethroat – 1 on Porth Hellick Bank, 1 near the airfield turning circle and 1 on St.Agnes.

Whinchat – 1 in the first field below the Airport Terminal along the track to Ennor Close, Old Town.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 on St. Agnes.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 on St. Agnes.

Saturday (02/09)

Red-footed Booby – It was still sat on Bishop Rock Lighthouse at 12:55.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper – 1 on Bryher flew towards Castle Down, Tresco.

Cory’s Shearwater – 40 rafting off Peninnis, 3 near Bishop Rock and c. 80 rafting off Giant’s Castle. 

Great Shearwater – 2 off Peninnis.

Melodious Warbler – 1in the Pittosporum hedge at Longstone Cottage.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still on the wires looking towards Maypole from Sandy Lane.

Red-backed Shrike – 1 still in Salakee fields.

Osprey – 1 over Peninnis.

Little Egret – 5 in Tresco Channel.

Golden Plover – 1 flew northeast over the Golf Course.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 3 Bating House Porth, Tresco.

Great Spotted Woodpecker – 1 drumming in the pines on the golf course.

Common Swift – 3 in the Porth Hellick area and 1 flew over Bryher Dump.

Common Redstart – 1 by Mount Todden Farm and 2 at Maypole.

Whinchat – 1 Salakee Fields and 1 Carn Friars.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 in Holy Vale and 1 found dead on the Garrison.

Sunday (03/09)

Red-footed Booby – After not showing in the morning it was back on Bishop Rock for Lighthouse for about 2 minutes in the early afternoon before flying off again.

Western Bonelli’s Warbler – 1 was at Helvear, moving along the pine belt towards Innisidgen,

Cory’s Shearwater – 350 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Great Shearwater – 200 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Balearic Shearwater – 1 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Sooty Shearwater – 5 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Manx Shearwater – 50 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Red-backed Shrike – 1 near the airfield turning circle.

Kingfisher – 1 Porth Hellick Pool.

Garden Warbler – 1 near the Cadet Hut on the Garrison.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 on Peninnis.

Wood Warbler – 1 was at Helvear.

Whinchat – 2 on Peninnis and 1 on the eastern perimeter fence of the airport.

Pied Flycatcher – 4 at Helvear

Spotted Flycatcher – 5 at Helvear and 1 at Longstone Terrace allotment.

Tree Pipit – 3 on Peninnis and 1 flew east over the airfield.

Bluefin Tuna – 30 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Short-beaked Common Dolphin – 35 on the daytime pelagic trip 1 km southwest of St. Agnes.

Monday (04/09)

Red-footed Booby – Again not seen from the boat that met the Scillonian III but seen on the bishop Lighthouse at 17:45 from the evening pelagic trip.

Wilson’s Storm-petrel – 2 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

European Storm-petrel – 5 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Cory’s Shearwater – ca 350 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Great Shearwater – ca 200 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Sooty Shearwater – 4 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Manx Shearwater – ca 200on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Great Skua –1 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Tree Pipit  1 flew over Longstone.

Minke Whale – 2 on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Blue Shark – 2 caught, tagged and released on the evening birding/fishing trip 5 km southwest of Bishop Rock.

Red-footed Booby – Back on the Bishop Rock Lighthouse in the afternoon.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper – 2 near the Daymark on St. Martin’s (photo).

Dotterel – 1 near the Daymark on St. Martin’s (photo).

Hoopoe – 1 at Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s (photo).

Wryneck – 1 on Carn Friars Farm, 1 in the Dead Pine Walk on the Garrison, 1 on the Garrison Coastal Path, 1 on the path between Carn Morval and Bant’s Carn and 1 in a field on the track from Salakee Farm to Porth Hellick.

Cory’s Shearwater – 125 seen from in Scillonian Waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Great Shearwater – 9 seen from in Scillonian Waters from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Whinchat – 1 southwest of Carn Vean, 2 Carn Friars, 1 on the Garrison, 2 along King Edward’s Road, Peninnis, 1 Rosehill, 5 on St. Martin’s and 5 on Tresco

Common Redstart – 1 on the Garrison and 1 on Tresco.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 Watermill Lane, 1 Helvear, 5 on the Garrison, 1 Carreg Dhu, 4 in the Rosehill Area, 5 on St. Martin’s and 3 on Tresco.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 Helvear, 1 Carn Friars, 8 on the Garrison, 2 along King Edward’s Road, Peninnis, 6 in the Rosehill Area, 1 on St. Martin’s and 3 on Tresco.

Yellow Wagtail – 3 along Abbey Drive, Tresco.
