Two-barred Greenish/ Yellow-browed Warbler – A putative bird in the garden of Rose Cottage, Tresco has generated much discussion with differing opinions, we await clarification,

Swainson’s Thrush – 1 still in Racket Town Cottage Garden, Tresco.

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 still in the field at Trenoweth and 1 still on St. Agnes.

Cory’s Shearwater – 2 off Peninnis and 4 on a pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Great Shearwater – 8 on a pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Sooty Shearwater – 4 off Peninnis and 4 on a pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Balearic Shearwater –1 off Horse Point, St, Agnes.

European Storm-petrel – 1 on a pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Pink-footed Goose – 4 still in a field at Higher Town, St. Martin’s.

Cattle Egret – 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Little Egret – 6 Tresco Channel and 1 Porthloo.

Grey Plover – 1 St. Martin’s Flats.

Common Sandpiper – – 1 Porthloo beach.

Whimbrel – 1 on rocks below the east side of Peninnis.

Black-tailed Godwit – 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Jack Snipe – 1 Lower Moors and 1 Porth Hellick Pool.

Merlin – 1 over the Garrison football pitch & probably the same bird hunting over the pig field on Peninnis and 1 just north of New Grimsby, Tresco.

Kingfisher – 1 Porth Hellick Pool and 1 Old Town Bay.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 at the campsite on the Garrison, 1 Porthloo Lane, 1 Trenoweth, 1 Newford Duck Pond, 1 Lower Moors, 1 Helvear, 1 Standing Stones Field, Higher Moors and 1 behind school on Tresco.

Firecrest – 1 in elms below the Parsonage, St. Agnes.

Black Redstart – 1 Porthloo beach, 1 at Telegraph by the masts, 1 Woolpack Battery, 1 on the roofs of Salakee Farm buildings, 1 still on Town Beach, 2 in a bulb field by the entrance to Carn Vean Tea rooms and 1 on the Garrison football pitch.

Common Redstart – 1 at Pelistry Riding Stables, 1 Old Town Bay and 1 on a fence in fields below St. Agnes Lighthouse.

Redwing – 1 in a field at Maypole

Grey Wagtail – 1 at Pelistry Riding Stables and 1 at Trenoweth.

Yellow Wagtail – 1 at Helvear and 1 flew over Pool Road, Tresco.

Siskin – 2 in Pilot’s Retreat.

Short=beaked Common Dolphin – 12 on a pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s.

****BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER**** – The highlight of the year was a stunning male, found in Popplestone Fields, Bryher and showed well to many admirers. This was the first record for Scilly & England and only the 4th for Britain (photo).

“Tresco Warbler” – Opinion seems to be edging towards an odd Yellow-browed Warbler.

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 still in the field at Trenoweth.

Radde’s Warbler – 1 in the garden behind Rose Cottage, St. Agnes.

Melodious Warbler – 1 by the road at Higher Moors (photo).

Barred Warbler – 1 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 2 at the Garrison Campsite entrance, 1 in the hedge opposite Nowhere, Old Town, 4 Holy Vale, 1 Newford Duck Pond, 1 Porth Hellick, 1 between the school & the church, Bryher

Woodlark – 1 Shipman Head Down, Bryher.

Pink-footed Goose – 4 still in a field at Higher Town, St. Martin’s.

Long-tailed Duck – 1 still off St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 1 off Watermill.

Cattle Egret – 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Golden Plover – 1 Porth Hellick Bay.

Grey Plover – 1 Porth Hellick Bay.

Common Sandpiper – 1 Porthloo Beach..

Pomarine Skua – 2 adults flew southeast past Giant’s Castle.

Merlin – 1 over Pilot’s Retreat.

Hobby – 1 Porth Hellick.

Great Spotted Woodpecker – 1 at Porth Hellick.

Turtle Dove – 1 near Lower Town, St. Martin’s (photo).

Firecrest – 1 Holy Vale, 1 Porth Hellick Loop, 2 Carreg Dhu Gardens, 1 between the church & the lighthouse, St. Agnes.

Mistle Thrush – 1 Carn Friars.

Black Redstart – 2 Porthloo, 1 Peninnis, 1 Porth Hellick Beach, 1 Church Point, 1 by the airfield turning circle, 1 on the Garrison Football Pitch, 1 near Old Town Café, 3 Hell Bay & 1 Popplestone Bay, Bryher and 1 Carn Near Quay, Tresco.

Whinchat – 1 King Edwards’s Road, Peninnis and 3 Salakee Fields, 1 Holy Vale.

Yellow Wagtail – 1 flew north over MacFarland’s Down.

Grey Wagtail – 3 Sunnyside Farm Trail.

Siskin – 2 flew over Porth Hellick.

Friday (14/10)

Blackburnian Warbler – 1 still in Popplestone Fields, Bryher.

Wilson’s Snipe – A bird showing most of the characteristics of this species has been on Porth Hellick Pool for at least 4 days.

Olive-backed Pipit – 1 still in the field at Trenoweth.

Melodious Warbler – 1 still by the road at Higher Moors.

Radde’s Warbler – 1 on St. Agnes at the start of the track to Gugh Bar.

Short-toed Lark – 1 flew over Periglis towards Castella Down, St. Agnes.

Common Rosefinch – 1 on the Garrison on the road to Newman House.

Corncrake – 1 on Bryher.

Red-breasted Flycatcher – 1+ in the lane behind Bryher Community Centre.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 still at Newford Duck Pond, 1 Higher Moors, 1 Porth Hellick Loop, 1 Pungies Lane, 1 by the Garrison campsite, 1 behind the Community Centre, Bryher and1 Pool road, Tresco, 1 by the Seven Stones Inn. St. Martin’s.

Cory’s Shearwater – 6 on a pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Great Shearwater – 1 on a pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Sooty Shearwater – 5 on a pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Manx Shearwater – 1 on a pelagic trip 9 miles south of St. Mary’s.

Puffin – 7 on a pelagic trip 9 miles south of St.Mary’s.

Pink-footed Goose – 6 flew over the airfield and 4 still at Higher Town, St. Martin’s.

Red-breasted Merganser – 2 o the sea in Rushy Bay, Bryher.

Great Northern Diver – 2 off Watermill.

Grey Plover – 1 Porth Hellick Bay.

Purple Sandpiper –5 on the Western Rocks.

Common Sandpiper – 1 Porthloo Beach and 1 Bryher.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 3 Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Whimbrel – 1 Old Town Bay, 1 Peninnis, 1 Innisidgen and 1 Periglis, St. Agnes.

Kingfisher – 1 Old Town Bay, 1 Porthloo and 1 Porth Hellick.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 between the hides at Porth Hellick.

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 in the lane behind Bryher Community Centre.

Whitethroat – 1 in the field above Pelistry Bay.

Firecrest – 1 in the pines opposite Bishop’s View, Porthloo Lane, 2 Carreg Dhu Gardens and 1 Salakee Farm.

Mistle Thrush – 2 flew west over Peninnis Farm and 1 flew over Borough Farm.

Whinchat – 1 between Porth Hellick & Salakee and 1 Wingletang, St. Martin’s.

Black Redstart – 1 Trench Lane, 1 Porth Thomas, 1 King Edward’s Road, Peninnis, 2 Porthloo, 1 Borough Farm, 1 Town Beach, 2 Porth Minnick.1 on the beach on front of the Flying Boat Club, Tresco, 1 Porth Askin, St. Agnes and 5 on Bryher.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 Trenoweth, 1 Newford Duck Pond, 1 Watermill Cove and 3 Helvear.

Tree Pipit – 1 flew over the Peninnis Farm Trail.

Grey Wagtail – 1 Porth Hellick Pool and 1 on the beach on front of the Flying Boat Club, Tresco.

Siskin – 2 flew over Pelistry.

Reed Bunting – 1 Pungies Lane.

Lapland Bunting – 1 flew over Popplestone Fields, Bryher.
