Cattle Egret – 3 north of Pool Road, Tresco.

Pink-footed Goose – 5 still in the fields above New Grimsby School, Tresco.

Shelduck – 2 on Abbey Pool, 3 on the Great Pool, Tresco and 2 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Pochard – 7 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Great Northern Diver – 3 near Skirt Island, Tresco, 2 in Tresco channel and a 2 off Deep Point.

Manx Shearwater – 5 off Kettle Point, Tresco.

Long-eared Owl –1 flew along Telegraph Road between Parting Carn and Rosehill Junction at dusk.

Raven – 1 flew over Pungies Lane.

—Grey Wagtail – 1 in the chicken field at Tremelethen.

Monday (14/03)

Cattle Egret – 3 in cattle field north of Pool Road.

Pink-footed Goose – 5 still in the fields above New Grimsby School, Tresco.

Great Northern Diver – 9 to the northwest of St. Agnes.

Black-throated Diver – 1 to the northwest of St. Agnes.

Sparrowhawk – There seems to have been a mini-influx with 4 or 5 on St. Mary’s.

Common Gull – 1 Porthloo.

Woodcock – 1 over Pump Lane at dusk.

Raven – 2 flew over Telegraph Road.

Black Redstart – 1 at Shark’s Pit.

White Wagtail – 1 at Pelistry Riding Stables.

Tuesday (15/03)

Shelduck – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Jack Snipe – 1 still on Lower Moors Pool.

Woodcock – 3 flew out of Lower Moors sallows at dusk.

Purple Sandpiper – 6 on rocks in the northeast of Old Town Bay.

Merlin – 1 at the Telegraph end of Porthloo Lane.

Stock Dove – 2 flew over Porth Hellick Loop Trail.

Skylark – 6 on the Airfield.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing and occasionally showing in the northeast corner of Porth Hellick Pool.

Black Redstart – 1 Porthloo.

Wednesday (16/03)

Garganey – The drake was back on Porth Hellick Pool, again spending most of its time hiding in the reeds.

Sand Martin – The first of the year was one over Porth Hellick.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing from behind the Dump Clump and 1 singing at Porth Hellick, with 2 calling there at dusk.

Black Redstart – 1 at Church Point.

Thursday (17/03)

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool but still hiding in the reeds most of the time.

Cattle Egret – 3 with cattle in a field by Rowesfield, Tresco.

Jackdaw – 1 flew over Longstone and Holy Vale, this is a scarce bird on Scilly.

Sand Martin – 1 still over Porth Hellick Pool.

Wheatear – The first of the year, a cracking male, was one on Bryher (photo).

Black Redstart – A stunning adult male a female were at Porth Wreck.

Friday (18/03)

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool (photo).

Little Egret – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool (photo).

Merlin – A female was on Peninnis.

Stock Dove – 11 flew east over Longtone.

Jackdaw – 1 flew over Porth Hellick Pool.

Cetti’s Warbler – 2 singing at Porth Hellick Pool and one trapped at Porth Hellick Ringing Station.

Redwing – 1 opposite Pelistry Riding Stables.

Wheatear – 1 was at Pulpit Rock, Peninnis and 1 was on St. Martin’s

Saturday (19/03)

Common Crane – 3 large birds spiralling from over St. Martin’s towards Tresco, were thought to be this species.

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Little Egret – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Skylark – 15 in sheep fields near the Community Centre on St. Martin’s.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing from the Dump Clump and 1 at Porth Hellick Pool.

Black Redstart – A male in sheep fields near the Community Centre on St. Martin’s.

Redwing – 1 in the ploughed field at Parting Carn.

Brambling – 1 in a ploughed field at Parting Carn,2 summer-plumaged birds feeding on seed in a field near Longstone Cottage, 1 calling at Lenteverne Cottage, Watermill and an mazing count of 40 in sheep fields near the Community Centre on St. Martin’s

Alba Wagtail – 30, a mixed flock of White & Pied, were in a ploughed field at Parting Carn also 30 in sheep fields near the Community Centre on St. Martin’s.
