A Black and White Warbler was in St. Martin’s Vineyard all day and in the afternoon was released from netting it had become entangled in. Unfortunately news did not reach any birders until Wednesday night. Latest news- it was seen I the area briefly at 12:25 on Thursday.

A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was seen briefly flying across Porth Melon mid-morning it flew into the bushes behind the life station and was not seen again.

The Blue Rock Thrush had moved from the Garrison to the stretch of coast line between Giant’s Castle and Porth Minnick, it made a brief sortie to Peninnis but still proved to be just as elusive.

A bird seen and photographed on the Great Pool, Tresco as a Black Tern was retrospectively identified in the evening as a juvenile White-winged Black Tern. No sign Thursday morning

Other birds were : Seen on a daytime Pelagic Trip were 14 Balearic Shearwater, 6 European Storm-petrel, a Common Tern, 2 Great Skua and an Arctic Skua.

20+ Common Scoter were off the Eastern Isles, the Jack Snipe was still on Porth Hellick Pool, a Mediterranean Gull was at Porthcressa, a Turtle Dove was on St. Agnes, 2 Wryneck were on St. Agnes and another was in Old Town Churchyard, a Merlin was on St. Agnes, the Short-toed Lark was still on Tresco Heliport, there was a small arrival of Yellow-browed Warblers with 7 reported across the islands, the Melodious Warbler was still in the field next to Old town Churchyard, a Lesser Whitethroat was on Tresco, 6 Firecrest were on St. Mary’s, the Cetti’s Warbler was still by Porth Hellick Pool & another was heard in Lower Moors. the first Ring Ouzel of the autumn was on St. Agnes, also the first Redwing was at Longstone, single Pied Flycatchers were on Peninnis, in the “Dump Clump & in Lower Moors, 4 Common Redstart were on St. Mary’s and 1 was on Gugh, there were fewer Wheatear & Whinchat than on Tuesday,  2 Lapland Bunting were on the airfield, one flew over Trewince and the to the golf course & 1 was on St. Marti’s, 2 Snow Bunting’s were on ST. Martin’s and finally the Ortolan Bunting was still on Tresco Heliport.
