Wednesday
Small numbers of all 3 hirundines were over Porth Hellick Pool.
The Lesser Kestrel flew form the Airfield towards Porth Hellick Down, a Merlin was at the Golf Course and a probable first-winter American Herring Gull flew over Salakee. 3 Dunlin were & a Lapwing were on Porth Hellick Beach and a Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Whimbrel & a Common Sandpiper were on Porthloo Beach.
There were 4 Ring Ouzel on Peninnis & 2 on the Golf Course, 50+ Wheatear were on the Golf Course, 17 were on the Airfield, 12 were on Peninnis, 4 were on Porth Hellick Beach. Also on the Golf Course were 5 House Martin, a Jackdaw and a Hooded Crow. A Reed Warbler was at Porth Hellick.
Away from St. Mary’s an Osprey flew over Vane Hill, Tresco and on St. Martin’s there 25-30 Golden Plover, a Dunlin, a Sanderling, a Sedge Warbler, a Common Whitethroat & “lots” of Wheatear.
Late news from St. Martin’s was a Garden Warbler on April 10.
Thursday
The Lesser Kestrel was still on Porth Hellick Down, the Merlin was still at the Golf Course and a Great Skua was off Peninnis.
A vert confiding partial summer-plumaged Curlew Sandpiper was on Porth Mellon Beach, this was the first Scilly record since 2017 and the first spring record for 10 years.
3 Dunlin were on Porth Hellick Beach, 1 was on Porth Mellon Beach, the Bar-tailed Godwit was seen on both Porthloo & Porth Mellon Beach and the Lapwing was on the Airfield & the Golf Course. 8 Ring Ouzel were on St. Mary’s – 3 on Peninnis, 2 below the Golf Course, 2 on Porth Hellick Down & 1 was on the Airfield.
A Common Whitethroat was at Bant’s Carn & another was near the Dump Clump, a Garden Warbler was at Porth Hellick House and a Cetti’s Warbler was in a garden opposite Porth Mellon.
35 Wheatear were on the Airfield, a Tree Pipit was at Carn Friars, a Jackdaw flew over the Dump Clump and a female Reed Bunting was on Porthloo Lane.
On St. Martin’s there was a Whimbrel, a Ring Ouzel and a cracking Wood Warbler the first Scilly sighting this year.
