Tuesday (22/04)
Stone Curlew – 1 1 was flushed from Deep Point and may have landed in the Mount Todden area or possibly continued towards Pelistry.
Hawfinch – 1 in a field near Sunnyside Farm.
Great White Egret – 1 flew north over Lower Moors, 1 was at a pond at the north end of the Holy Vale wooded trail. 1 flew over Porth Hellick and 1 was on South Beach, Tresco. These sightings are thought to involve 2 mobile birds which are currently resident on the islands.
Black-throated Diver – 1 off St. Helen’s.
Great Northern Diver – 3 off Old Grimsby, Tresco.
Black Redstart – A female at Tregarthen’s Carpark.
Wednesday (23/04)
Shore Lark – 1 feeding near the airfield turning circle was flushed by a Merlin and was later relocated on Porth Hellick Down/Deep Point Area. (photo). This was only the 13th record for Scilly and the first since one on Tresco on 2nd May 2009.
Short-toed Lark – 1 was found on the Airfield in the evening (photo).
Great White Egret – 1 on the east side of Porth Cressa.
Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Cressa Bay.
Tufted Duck – A drake was on Lower Moors Pool.
Golden Plover – 1 was on the Airfield.
Thursday (24/04)
Shore Lark – 1 was still on Porth Hellick Down before relocating to the Airfield in the evening
Short-toed Lark – 1 was still on the Airfield .
Great White Egret – 1 at Pendrathen.
Great Northern Diver – 9 off the south end of Tresco and 1 off Innisidgen.
Tufted Duck – The drake was still on Lower Moors Pool in the morning, moving to Porth Hellick Pool in the afternoon. A female was on Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Purple Sandpiper – 7 on the Western Rocks ad 6 on Maiden Bower.
Common Sandpiper – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool.
Whimbrel – 5 on Wras Rock, 3 on Porth Hellick Beach, 3 at Halangy Porth, 3 Old Town Beach and 2 on Tresco.
Friday (25/04)
Shore Lark – 1 still near the turning circle on the airfield.
Short-toed Lark – 1 still on the airfield.
Purple Heron – 1 flew over Shooters; Pool and on to Porth Hellick where it landed on the Pool and then flew into a tree (photo) and late dropped into Lower Moors.
Osprey – 1 flew north over Kittydown. And was seen later over Lower Moors.
Tufted Duck – 1 still on Porth Hellick Pool.
Red-breasted Merganser – A redhead was off Jack’s Ledge, below Middle Town, St. Martin’s.
Golden Plover – 1 on the airfield and 1 at Beady Pool. St. Agnes
Common Sandpiper – 2 on the Great Pool, Tresco.
Whimbrel – 9 on St. Martin’s and “lots” heard flying over in the early hours.
Common Swift – 2 over Porth Hellick.
Cuckoo – 1 in the Dead Pine Walk on the Garrison.
Raven – 1 on St. Martin’s.
Grasshopper Warbler 1 reeling along Carn Friars Farm Track and another reeling incessantly at Mount Todden.
Lesser Whitethroat – The first of the year was 1 in the ringing lanes at Porth Hellick.
Common Whitethroat – 1 on St. Martin’s.
Ring Ouzel – A female near Peninnis Lighthouse. On Tresco 3 males & 2 females were at Borough Farm and a female was in fields west of Dolphin Cottage.
Black Redstart – 1 Horse Point, St. Agnes.
Tree Pipit – 1 flew north over Longstone.
Yellow Wagtail – 1 at Porth Cressa.
White Wagtail – 1 with cattle at Parting Carn and 1 at Longstone.
Saturday (26/04)
Shore Lark – 1 still near the turning circle on the airfield.
Short-toed Lark – 1 still on the airfield.
Quail – 1 near the ISBG hide in Lower Moors (photo) and it od another on the airfield in the evening.
Hoopoe – 1 in a flooded field near the school on Tresco (photo).
Woodchat Shrike – 1 by St. Nicholas’s Church, Tresco.
Purple Heron – 1 in the Lower Moors area.
Great White Egret – ! at Porthloo flew to Old Town Bay.
Hawfinch – 1 in Carnwethers Guest House Garen, Green Lane.
Osprey – 1 flew from Telegraph towards St. Martin’s.
Shoveler – A drake on Abbey Pool
Tufted Duck – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.
Red-breasted Merganser – 1 off St. Martin’s.
Black-throated Diver – 1 off St. Martin’s.
Great Northern Diver – 3 off Tresco.
Golden Plover – 1 on the airfield.
Common Sandpiper – 1 at Porth Minnick.
Whimbrel – 2 at Porthloo.
Hobby – 1 over Old Town, 1 over Town Beach1 on St. Martin’s and 3 over the Great Pool, Tresco.
Common Swift – 2 on St. Martin’s and 1 over Shipman Head Down, Bryher.
Raven – 1 on St. Martin’s.
Common Whitethroat –3on St. Martin’s.
Ring Ouzel – 1 on Peninnis, 1 at St. Warna’s Cove, St. Agnes and 1 at Borough Farm, Tresco.
Redwing – 1 on Wingletang, St. Agnes.
Common Redstart – A female on St. Martin’s.
Whinchat – 1 on Salakee Down and 1 at Horse Point, St. Agnes.
Tree Pipit – 2 on St. Martin’s. and 1 flew over Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Yellow Wagtail – 1 in a flooded field near the school on Tresco.
Whit Wagtail – 1 at Porth Minnick.
