Little Bittern – 1 flew from Holy Vale to Porth Hellick Pool, where it eventually showed well before flying to the beach (photos). It then flew east over Porth Hellick Down towards Deep Point.
Night Heron – 1 roosted at Higher Moors.
Golden Oriole – 1 in pines on Sandy Lane, 1 in Holy Vale, 1 in the Carreg Dhu pines, 1 Salakee Lane and 1 at top of the track across Kittydown (photo)
Osprey – 1 flew high east over Porth Hellick.
Hobby – 1 or 2 around St. Mary’s.
Turtle Dove – 2 in a field on Sandy Lane and 1 at Trenoweth.
Rook – 1 at Old Grimsby, Tresco and 1 over Lower Moors in the evening.
Spotted Flycatcher – 1 in a tilled field next to Parting Carn chicken fields and 1 at Old Grimsby, Tresco.
Pied Flycatcher – 1 in a tilled field next to Parting Carn chicken fields.
Tuesday (12/05)
Night Heron – 2 flew south over Lower Moors at dusk.
Garganey – 2 drakes and a female were on Lower Moors Pool in the evening.
Golden Oriole – 3 or 4 in the Carreg Dhu/Holy Vale/Sandy Lane area.
Dartford Warbler – The male was still on Chapel Down, St. Martin’s.
Great Northern Diver – A bird in summer plumage was off Watermill.
Purple Sandpiper – 1 on the Western Rocks.
Raven – 1 near the Daymark, St. Martin’s.
Fieldfare – A very late bird flew over Turfy Hill, St. Martin’s.
Wednesday (13/05)
Garganey – 1 in the reeds on Porth Hellick Pool.
Golden Oriole – 1 in wires on Sandy Lane and 1 between Longstone and Salakee.
Purple Sandpiper – 1 on the Gilstone off Peninnis Head.
Turtle Dove – 4 in fields off Barnaby Lane, St. Agnes, 1 on Sandy Lane and 1 in a field on Old Town Lane,
Crossbill – 1 in the pine belt on Sandy Lane.
Thursday (14/05)
Golden Oriole – 1 flew over Holy Vale Vineyard.
Turtle Dove – 2 in a ploughed field on sandy Lane.
Friday (15/05)
Great Northern Diver – A summer plumage bird was off St. Martin’s
Common Sandpiper – 1 at Periglis, St. Agnes.
Garden Warbler – 1 on Tresco.
Saturday (16/05)
Great Northern Diver – 4 off Deep Point
Yellow-legged Gull – 1 on St. Agnes Cricket Pitch.
Arctic Skua – A dark phase bird at the Western Rocks.
Common Tern – 1 in the Roads.
Purple Sandpiper – 10 on Rosevean and 1 on Bishop Rock
Hobby – 1 flew west over Sandy Lane.
Turtle Dove – 1 in a tilled field between the start of Tremelethen Trail and Old Town.
Sunday (17/05)
Dartford Warbler – The male was still singing on Chapel Down, St. Agnes.
Great Northern Diver – 2 of St. Martin’s.
Whimbrel – 3 on the airfield and 2 on Par Beach, St. Martin’s.
Turtle Dove – 2 in a ploughed field behind Bordeaux Pottery on Old Town Lane.
Common Whitethroat – 2 on the east side of the airfield.
