Shoveler – A pair on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Common Scoter – 1 on the sera below Tregarthen’s Hotel.

Jack Snipe – 2 on Porth Hellick Pool, 1 on Porth Hellick Loop and 1 on Lower Moors Pool.

Knot – 1 still on Porthloo Beach.

Whimbrel – 5 at Innisidgen.

Merlin – 1 Pelistry.

Kingfisher – 1 Porth Hellick Pool. 1 in Town Bay, 1 Porth Cressa and 1 Old Town Bay.

Great Spotted Woodpecker – 1 heard calling at Porth Hellick.

Skylark – 4 on the airfield and 4 Pelistry.

Yellow Browed Warbler – 1 in the Mount Todden Pines, 1 Higher Moors by the road, 1 Shooters’ Pool,  1 on the path between the school and the Dump Clump, 1 Newford Duck Pond, 1 Trenoweth and 1 Pool Road, Tresco.

Firecrest – 9 on St. Mary’s and 2 on Tresco.

Ring Ouzel – 1 in a ploughed field on Airport Road (photo).

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 still in Old Town Churchyard and 1 in the Dump Clump.

Black Redstart – 28+ on St. Mary’s.

Brambling – 1+ still Porth Hellick Beach.

Tuesday (21/10)

Eye-browed Thrush – 1 was found at 09:20 in the Porthloo duck Pond area, where is spent about an hour before it was chased off by a Blackbird (photos). This was the 8th record for Scilly and the first since 1993.

Little Bunting   – 1 in the field by the path from Telegraph/Pungies Lane corner to the Golf Course.

Red-backed Shrike – 1 in a field behind the pumping station on Porthloo Lane.

Great White Egret   – 1 on Tresco and what was probably a different bird on St. Mary’s.

Cattle Egret   – 1 with cattle on Pool Road, Tresco.

Whooper  Swan   – 6 flew over Watermill, then over St. Martin’s and the over St. Agnes.

Common Scoter   – 1 on the sea, seen from Tregarthen’s carpark.

Great Shearwater – c70 in Scilly waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Sooty Shearwater – 1 in Scilly waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Manx Shearwater – 4 in Scilly waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Mediterranean Gull – 38 in Tresco Channel.

Puffin  – 4 in Scilly waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance.

Lapwing   – 1 on Tresco Heliport.

Turtle Dove – 1 still on Tresco

Wryneck – 1 on the coastal path on the west side of Peninnis.

Yellow-browed Warbler – c5 on St. Mary’s

Firecrest   – c15 on St. Mary’s.

Ring Ouzel   – 1 still in a ploughed field on the Airport approach road.

Spotted Flycatcher  – 1 still in Old Town Churchyard.

Black Redstart   – c20 on St. Mary’s.

Siskin   – 2 on the Sunnyside Farm Trail.

Brambling   – 1 still in the Standing Stones Field.

Lapland Bunting – 1 flew over Hugh Town calling at 23:14.

Snow Bunting   – 2 near the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Wednesday (22/10) 

Eye-browed Thrush – 1 was still showing sporadically in the area around Porthloo Duck Pond.

Buff-bellied Pipit – 1 in a field west of Longstone Cottage.

Wigeon – 5 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Shoveler – 2 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Pintail – 1 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Pochard – 1 on the Great Pool and 5 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Common Scoter – 1 still on the sea off Tregarthen’s Car Park and 1 in Pentle Bay.

Great White Egret – 1 flew over Porthloo and Porth Mellon.

Spoonbill – 1 on Samson.

Great Shearwater – 3000- 5000! on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Sooty Shearwater – 300! on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Manx Shearwater –  100 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

European-storm Petrel – 4 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Yellow-legged Gull – 3 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Arctic Tern – 1 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Great Skua – 6 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock. 1 of the birds had an orange ring (photo) and is thought to have been ringed on Orkney.

Arctic Skua – 1 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Puffin –  4 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.

Golden Plover  – 1on Back Lane, Tresco.

Jack Snipe – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool and 1 on Lower Moors Pool.

Common Sandpiper – 1 on Pelistry Beach.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 2 on South Beach, Tresco.

Whimbrel – 4 on South Beach, Tresco and 1 flew over Hugh Town.

Merlin – 1 flew over Peninnis.

Kingfisher – 2 Porth Cressa, 1 Porthloo and 1 flew from Lower Moors towards Old Town.

Wryneck – 1 on the coastal path on the west side of Peninnis and 1 in a field at Maypole Triangle.

Skylark – 11 on Tresco and 1 on St. Martin’s.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 in fields on Porthloo Farm

Lesser Whitethroat– 1 near the ISBG hide in Lower Moors.

Firecrest – 3 trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick Ringing Station, 2 Porthloo and c15 on Tresco.

Ring Ouzel – 1 on Gweal Hill, Bryher.

Black Redstart –  on Porthloo Beach and 1 Shark’s Pit.

Whinchat – 1 on Porth Hellick Beach.

Tree Pipit – 1 still in the horse paddock west of Bryher Campsite.

Yellow Wagtail – 1 on the beach at Shark’s Pit.

Brambling – 1 at rocky Hills Chalets.

Siskin – 19 Tresco.

Redpoll – 3 between the Great Pool and Stinky Porth Bryher and 3 over Pool Road.

Snow Bunting – 2 still at the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Atlantic Bluefin Tuna –  10 on a pelagic trip 6miles southwest of Bishop’s Rock.
