Sunday (11/05) 

Black Guillemot  – 1 was near Round Island (photo). This a very rare bird on Scilly and this is the first record for 21 years.

Golden Oriole – 1 singing at the Higher Moord end of Holy Vale.

Great Northern Diver – 2 by Nut Rock, Tresco.

Grey Plover – 1 flew west over Longstone.

Common Sandpiper – 1 at Porth Hellick.

Red Kite – 1 over the fields behind the Doctor’s Cottage, Tresco.

Turtle Dove – 1 in a ploughed field between Normandy and Carn Friars Farm Shop.

Cuckoo – 2 on St. Agnes.

Spotted Flycatcher –  1  in a field behind Porth Minnick and 3 on St. Agnes.

Whinchat – 1 in the field next to the Nag’s Head rock on Wingletang, St. Agnes.

Monday (12/05) 

Garganey – A drake was on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Golden Oriole – 1 in a garden at Sunnyside holiday apartments. And it or another late afternoon at Shooters’ Pool.

Marsh Harrier– 1 flew over the Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Red Kite – 1 over Mount Todden, 1 on Tresco and 1 over St. Martin’s Vineyard.

Hobby – 1 over Abbey Woods, Tresco.

Great White Egret – 1 on St, Agnes.

Purple Sandpiper –11 on St, Agnes.

Common Sandpiper – 2 on St, Agnes.

Dunlin –10 on St, Agnes.

Whimbrel –30 on St, Agnes.

Bar-tailed Godwit  – 2 on St, Agnes.

Common Swift – 2 over Old Grimsby, Tresco.

Turtle Dove – 2 still at Normandy Corne and 2 on St, Agnes.

Cuckoo – 1 on Tressco.

Common Whitethroat – 1 on the Garrison and 2 on St. Agnes

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 in afield along the track to Carn Vean Café.

Spotted Flycatcher – 15 on St. Mary’s, 3 on Tresco and an astounding 23 on St. Agnes.

Pied Flycatcher – 1 on the Garrison.

Tree Pipit – 2 At Helvear.

Tuesday (13/05) 

Golden Oriole – 1 in bushes by Shooters’ Pool.

Osprey – 1 flew over Bryher and Tresco and then over the Garrison.

Red Kite – Still 2 or 3 on St. Mary’s.

Hobby – 1 + around St. Mary’s.

Great White Egret – 1 on Bryher.

Golden Plover – 1 on the golf course.

Whimbrel – 6 on Porthloo Beach.

Swift – 3 around St, Mary’s and 2 flew out to sea over Shipman Head, Bryher. 

Turtle Dover – 3 in a ploughed field opposite Normandy swimming Pool and 4 below Hillside Farm, Bryher.

Cuckoo – 1 at Helvear and 1 at Timmy’s Hill, Bryher.

Common Whitethroat – 1 on Kittydown.

Redwing – A very late individual flew over Telegraph and landed on the golf course.

Spotted Flycatcher – 2 on St. Mary’s, 4 on St. Agnes and 4 on Bryher.

Blue-headed Wagtail – 1 with cattle at Troy Town Farm,

Wednesday (14/05) 

SOLITARY SANDPIPER – A bird seen in the early evening at Porth Hellick Pool, was at first thought to be a Green Sandpiper, but examination of photos showed it to brr a Solitary Sandpiper,

Red-backed Shrike –  An adult male was on the north side of Bryher campsite and then moved to  the hillside immediately south of the campsite toilet block.

Osprey – 1 flew over Old Town Bay and then circled over Porth Cressa.

Golden Oriole – 1 was singing in the pines behind Longstone Terrace.

Great White Egret – 1 on Hangman Rock  behind Fraggle Rock, Bryher and 1 at Porth Killier, St. Agnes.

Whimbrel –  2 at the Old Quay, St. Martin’s and 2 at St. Warna’s Well, St. Agnes.

Great Northern Diver –  2 off the Old Quay, St. Martin’s.

Mediterranean Gull – 1 in Tresco Channel off Anneka’s Quay, Bryher.

Red Kite – 1  over Csrn Vean, 1 over Tresco and 1 on Bryher.

Hobby  –1 on Bryher.

Turtle Dove – 1 in the ploughed field opposite Normandy Swimming Baths and in flight at Hillside Farm, Bryher.

Common Swift – 1 over Troy Town, St. Agnes.

Lesser Whitethroat –  A pair were collecting nesting material at the junction of Green Lane and the coastal path to Watermill Cove and a female was at Shooters’ Pool.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 in the pine belt  opposite Bishop’s View on Porthloo Lane and 4 on Bryher.

Yellow Wagtail – A female in a pasture at Hillside Farm, Bryher.

White Wagtail – 1 at the Riding Stables, 1 on St. Agnes cricket pitch and 2 on Bryher.

Thursday (15/05) 

Bee-eater – 1 flew north over Normandy Pool (heard only) and 2 where seen later hawking over Green Farm.

Golden Oriole – 1 was swinging from the trees between Porthloo Duck Pond & Rocky hill and a female type flew across Old Town Lane by Watermeadow Barn.

Great White Egret – 3 on Bryher Pool and 1 Porth Killier, St. Agnes.

Great Northern Diver – 5 from a boat on a trip to Bishop Rock and 3 west of Samson.

Purple Sandpiper –  6 on Rosevean.

Wihimbrel  –   3 at Porth Killier, St. Agnes and 9 east of Samson.

Mediterranean Gull – 1 Bar Point.

Red Kite  – 1 over Green Farm.

Turtle Dove – 2 flew from Porth Hellick towards Lunnon and 1 Lower town Farm fields, St. Agnes.

Swift  –  2 over New Grimsby, Tresco.

Cuckoo  – 1 on Samson.

Spotted Flycatcher – 1 in Holy Vale, 1 Pool Road, Tresco, 1 north of Bryher Campsite and 2 on St. Agnes.

Yellow Wagtail – A male “Grey-head3eed type” in Popplestone Fields, Bryher

White Wagtail – 1 on Bryher Campsite.
