Pallid Harrier – 1 still on St. Agnes, It also made a brief visit to Gugh

Common Crane – 2 were reported from Bryher early morning and they then flew off. One was seen flying towards St. Martin’s and one was seen over Holy Vale and over other locations on St. Mary’s. It landed in several locations before finally settling in Salakee Farm Fields.

Golden Plover – 18 on the Golf Course.

Merlin – An immature bird by Pump Lane.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing in Holy Vale.

Redwing – 21 at the Riding Stables and 4 at Borough Farm, St. Mary’s

Tuesday (09/04) 

Pallid Harrier – 1 was still on St. Agnes and again made a visit to Gugh

Common Crane – 1 in the fields around Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Cattle Egret – 1 with cattle south of High Lanes

Greylag Goose – ! was on Porth Hellick Pool.

Common Sandpiper – 1 at Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 was still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Reed Warbler – The first report of the spring was of 1 singing at the Old Town end of Lower Moors.

Pied Flycatcher – The first of the year was 1 on the Gattison by the changing rooms.

Tree Pipit – The first of the year was 1 at Browarth, St. Agnes.

Wednesday (10/04) 

Jack Snipe – 1 on Wingletang Down, St. Agnes.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 was still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Reed Warbler – 1 by the Coastguards Cottages, St. Agnes.

Thursday (11/04)

Iberian Chiffchaff – 1 at Cove Vean, St, Agnes. This is the fifth record for Scilly and the first since 2017.

Common Crane – 1 still in Little Arthur Farm fields on St. Martin’s.

Serin – 1 over Spray View, near Deep Point, flying towards Normandy.

Citrine Wagtail – A “possible” was reported in the chicken field at Parting Carn.

Pink-footed Goose – 2 on St. Martin’s Campsite flood.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Hugh Town Harbour.

Black-tailed Godwit – 1 in a flooded field at the south end of Bryher.

Little Egret – 1 on Bryher.

Friday (12/04)

Iberian Chiffchaff – 1 still at Cove Vean, St, Agnes.

Common Crane – 1 still in Little Arthur Farm fields on St. Martin’s.

Woodchat Shrike – The first of the spring was 1 at Pendrathen.

Golden Oriole – A female flew from Middle Town towards Lower Town, St. Martin’s.

Black-throated Diver – 2 in Great Bay, St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Great Bay, St. Martin’s.

Common Sandpiper – 1 at Deep Point Quarry.

Black-tailed Godwit – 2 flew over St. Agnes cricket pitch.

Puffin – 15 Annet and 35 Mincarlo,

Cetti’s Warbler – 1on Porth Hellick Loop Trail.

Pied flycatcher – 1 in the pines above Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Saturday (12/04)

Pallid Swift – 1 over Porth Hellick Pool and then over Porth Hellick Loop.

Iberian Chiffchaff – 1 still at Cove Vean, St, Agnes.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still at Pendrathen (photos).

Night Heron – 2 at dusk. They flew from Higher Moors low over the road towards Porth Hellick.

Common Crane – 1 still at Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Golden Oriole – 1 flew over Barnaby Lane, St. Agnes and a male was seen by the cricket pitch on St. Martin’s.

Short-eared Owl – 1 hunting over the over the Salakee Farm Fields.

Greylag Goose – 1 still in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Pintail – 1 at Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Cressa.

Merlin – A female at Porth Hellick house.

Jackdaw – 1 seen around Hugh Town. This is a scarce species on Scilly.

Sunday (14/04)

Pallid Swift – 1 flying around St. May’s, seen at various locations (photo).

Red-rumped Swallow – 1 over Little Arthur Farm. St. Martin’s and this or another was in a flock of hirundines in the Porth Hellick/Higher Moors area,

Common Crane – 1 still at Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Purple Heron –1 seen over the Porth Hellick area, and it or another was flushed from the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors. 2 that were seen on the Great Pool, Tresco later were probably the same.

Ring-billed Duck – An adult male was on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still on the coastal path east of Pendrathen.

Hen Harrier – 1 flew over Porth Hellick towards the airport.

Serin – 2 flew over Hugh Town Church towards the Garrison.

Golden Oriole – an estimated 5 or 6 on St.Mary’s, with 3 together at Porth Hellick Loop (photo), 1 in cove Vean, St. Agnes and a female at Middle Town, St. Martin’s.

Pink-footed Goose – 2 at Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Greylag Goose – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Common Sandpiper – 3 on Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Merlin – 1 at Peninnis Head.

Cuckoo – The first of the year was 1 calling in the Longstone area.

Jackdaw – 1 flew over Sunnyside towards Parting Carn and was later seen on the hospital roof.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 calling near the road by the path to Porth Hellick.

Pied flycatcher – 1 in an apple tree north of Longstone Terrace (photo)
