Monday (01/04)

Common Crane – 2 were reported from Bryher early morning and they then flew off. One was seen flying towards St. Martin’s and one was seen over Holy Vale and over other locations on St. Mary’s. It landed in several locations before finally settling in Salakee Farm Fields.

Green-winged Teal – The mail was seen again on Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Cattle Egret – 2 with cows by the pine belt on Sandy Lane. 1 flew over Hugh Town in the evening.

Red-throated Diver – A “probable” in Porth Mellon.

Black-throated Diver – 2 off Little Bay, St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 1 off Little Bay, St. Martin’s.

Lapwing – 1 on Browarth, St. Agnes.

Golden Plover – 1 on Wingle tang, St. Agnes.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 on Porth Hellick Loop.

Redwing – Still reasonable numbers on the islands

Tuesday (02/04)

Common Crane – After not it was not seen all day, it turned up again in the Salakee Farm fields below the airport

Black-throated Diver – 2 off St. Martin’s.

Harrier sp. – A ring-tail, probably the wintering Hen Harrier.

Golden Plover – 3 on the airfield.

Sand Martin – 1 on Bryher.

Swallow – 1 on Bryher.

Redwing –Still 100+ on the islands

Ring Ouzel – The first of the spring was 1 that flew rom Porth Hellick House towards Longstone Lodge.

Wheatear – 1 on Bryher and 5 along the north coast of St. Martin’s.

Black Redstart – 1 singing at New Grimsby, Tresco and 1 along the north coast of St. Martin’s.

Wednesday (03/04) 

Common Crane – It flew over Porth Hellick Bay, landed briefly in a field behind Normandy Farmhouse and then flew back to Salakee Farm Fields (photo).

Purple Heron – A “probable” flew over Lower Moors.

Green-winged Teal – The mail was seen again on Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Cattle Egret – 2 with the cattle by the pine belt on Sandy Lane (photo).

Greylag Goose – It was seen on Porth Hellick Pool and in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Canada Goose – 8 of this recently scarce bird were on the golf course before flying off towards St. Martin’s.

Shelduck – 2 on Teän.

Black-throated Diver – 2 off St. Martin’s. 

Great Northern Diver – 2 in Porth Mellon, 3 off Pentle, Tresco and 1 off St. Martin’s.

Great Skua – 1 chasing Manx Shearwaters around the Eastern Isles.

Sandwich Tern – 16 + on Samson.

Golden Plover – 15 on the airfield,

Black-tailed Godwit – 1 in Porth Hellick Bay and 1 on Bryher.

Sand Martin – 2 on Tresco.

House Martin – 1 flew over the Garrison and 1 near Periglis Quay, St. Agnes.

Swallow – 2 flew over the iris field at Higher Moors and 1 over the Turk’s Head on St. Agnes.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing in Holy Vale and 1 by Higher Moors Pumping Station

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Willow Warbler – 5 on Tresco,3 on St. Martin’s, 2 at Porth Hellick, 1 on the Tremelethen Farm and 1 in a garden on Jackson’s Hill, Hugh Town.

Ring Ouzel – 1 at Salakee

Redwing – Still several 100 on the island.

Wheatear – 4 on St. Martin’s.

White Wagtail – 4 in the chicken field at Tremelethen.

Thursday (04/04)

Common Crane – 1 again in the fields at Salakee Farm.

Golden Plover – 20 on the Golf Course and what were probably the same 20 flew from Giant’s Castle towards the airfield. 1 at Browarth, St. Agnes.

Whimbrel – 1 at Browarth, St. Agnes.

Sand Martin – 2 over the Great Pool, Tresco.

House Martin – 1 over the Great Pool, Tresco.

Swallow – 2 over the Great Pool, Tresco.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Redwing – Still 200+ on the islands.

Friday (05/04)

Pallid Harrier – 1 flew over Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Common Crane – 1 still on St. Mary’s, seen at various locations on the ground and in flight.

Greylag Goose – 1 still in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Great Northern Diver – 2 in Town Bay.

Great Skua – 1 seen in Scilly waters from the Scillonian III

Sandwich Tern – 8 on Hats Buoy in Crow Sound.

Merlin – 1 seen at Porthloo and rocky Hill.

Saturday (06/04)

Pallid Harrier – 1 was seen again over St.Warna’s Cove, St. Agnes and then over Wingletang in the evening (photo).

Green-winged Teal – The mail was seen again on Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Greylag Goose – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Cressa Bay.

Sandwich Tern – 3 flew past Bant’s Carn.

Golden Plover – 3 on the Golf Course and 2 at giant’s Castle.

House Martin – 1 flew over church R1ad, Hugh Town.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors

Sunday (07/04)

Pallid Harrier – 1 was seen again on Wingletang, St. Agnes. Later it was seen to fly to Gugh.

Common Crane – 1 still on St. Mary’s, seen at various locations on the ground and in flight. It then flew from Pelistry to St. Martin’s, where it landed in a field near Higher Town Post office before flying off north.

Green-winged Teal – 1 still at shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Greylag Goose – 1 still in the iris field at Higher Moors.

Cattle Egret – 1 in a field south of High Laners.

Merlin – 1 flew past the lighthouse on St. Agnes.

Golden Plover – 4 flew over the pumping station at Higher Moors.

Swallow – 16 around Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

House Martin – 1 flying around Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.
