Ringed Plover – The German colour-ringed bird from last winter was on Porthloo Beach.

Great Northern Diver – 1 off Newford Island, Porthloo later moving to Porth Mellon.

Woodcock – 1 in Holy Vale.

Merlin – 1 in fields at Trewince.

Fieldfare – 1 flew over Sunnyside Farm Trail and 4 over Higher Moors.

Redwing – 11 along Sandy Lane, 14 in Holy Vale, 10 Carn Friars Lane nd 5 by Porth Hellick Loop.

Sunday (11/12)

Cattle Egret – 2 at Trewince.

Whimbrel – 2 flew east past Peninnis.

Purple Sandpiper – 1 at Carn Wethers, St. Martin’s.

Woodcock – 1 in the farm fields at Porthloo

Kingfisher – 1 Porthloo.

Fieldfare – 2 on the Garrison playing fields.

Redwing – 12 on the Garrison playing fields.

Grey Wagtail – 1 Rosehill.

Monday (12/12)

Spoonbill – 3 on Samson.

Common Buzzard – 1 again over St. Martin’s Vineyard.

Common Scoter – 2 off the Pentle Bay/ Green island area, Tresco.

Great Northern Diver – 3 off Innisidgen and 5 off the Pentle Bay/ Green island area, Tresco.

Golden Plover – 8 flew from Tresco towards the Golf Course.

Mediterranean Gull – 1 off Innisidgen.

Common Gull – 1 off Innisidgen.

Merlin – 1 Innisidgen.

Kingfisher – 1 Porth Hellick Pool.

Tuesday (13/12)

Cattle Egret – 1 at Trewince and 1 in the garden behind Star Castle on the Garrison (photo).

Golden Plover – 18 flew low over Sunnyside towards Maypole and 1 on Bryher.

Jack Snipe – 1 on Bryher.

Common Gull – 1 Porthloo.

Skylark – 1 on Bryher.

Fieldfare – 1 on Bryher.

Redwing – 25 on Bryher.

Black Redstart – 1 Sharks’ Pit and 1 on Bryher.

Wednesday (14/12)

Cattle Egret – 1 on Porthloo Beach.

Jack Snipe – 1 seen briefly from the Porth Hellick Loop Trail.

Lapwing – 7 flew east over Old Town Bay towards the airfield.

Golden Plover – 22 fly high west over Peninnis, 8 flew north over the Dump Clump and 11 were on the Garrison playing field.

Merlin – 1 with prey on the Golf Course.

Fieldfare – 2 on the Garrison playing field.

Thursday (15/12)

Spoonbill – 3 on Samson.

Long-eared Owl – 1 in the roadside trees at the bottom end of Sunnyside Farm Trail.

The cold weather movement continued with a noticeable increase in winter thrushes (Redwing Fieldfare).

Golden Plover – 58 in the fields on the west side of Peninnis,30 flew over Holy Vale, 20 in the Telegraph/Trenoweth area and 26 on the Garrison Football Pitch, (photo).

Lapwing – 47 flew south over the Garrison, 30 in the Telegraph/Trenoweth/Golf Course area, 10 in the fields on the west side of Peninnis and smaller numbers elsewhere around St. Mary’s, (photo).

Woodcock – 1 near the seaward hide at Porth Hellick.

Merlin – 1 on the west side of Peninnis.

Black Redstart – 1 on the Garrison Football Pitch.

Fin Whale – 1 off St. Agnes.

Friday (16/12)

Still good numbers of winter thrushes, Golden Plover and Lapwing on St. Mary’s.

Dusky Warbler – 1 still at the east end of the Great Pool, Tresco.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 flew south over High Lanes.

Stone Curlew – 1 moving around in fields from High Lanes to Pungies Lane (photo). This is a rare bird on Scilly.

Cattle Egret – 1 at the junction near Sage House, probably the same bird at Trewince and 4 at Borough Farm, Tresco.

Yellow-browed Warbler – 1 Pentle House, Tresco.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 2 on Tresco.

Spoonbill – 3 on Green Island.

Great Northern Diver – 9 seen from MacFarland’s Down and 1 Porth Mellon.

Pala-bellied Brent Goose – 2 on Tresco.

Pink-footed Goose – 10 still in the fields above the church on Tresco.

Shoveler – 9 on Tresco.

Pochard – 8 on Tresco.

Scaup – 1 on Tresco.

Common Scoter – 5 off Tresco.

Eider – 1 off Tresco.

Grey Plover – 1 , circling the Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Jack Snipe – 1 at the southeast end of the Great Pool, Tresco.

Merlin – 1 in trees a on Pump Lane.

Fin Whale – 2 off Peninnis.
