Silver-washed Fritillary – A female photographed on Bryher was the first record of this butterfly on Scilly.

Kingfisher – 2 on the Abbey Pool, Tresco.

Wednesday (27/07)

Laughing Gull – An adult summer-plumage bird was on the Abbey Pool, Tresco in the afternoon. It then flew to South Beach before returning to Abbey Pool. This is probably the bird that was seen flying past Great Bay, St. Martin’s on July 10. Where is it hiding?

Common Sandpiper – 13 flew over Porth Hellick where 7 landed and 7 at Tregear’s Porth near Watermill. On Tresco 16 were on South Beach 10+were on the Great Pool and 3 were on the Abbey Pool. How many different birds were involved in these counts one can only guess, but there was a substantial arrival.

Green Sandpiper – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool (photo).

Knot – 1 on South Beach, Tresco.

Black-tailed Godwit – A summer-plumage bird was on Stony Island and it or another on Porth Hellick Pool (photo).

Whimbrel – 6on South Beach, Tresco.

Yellow-legged Gull – 5 on the Abbey Pool, Tresco.
