Hoopoe – 1 was dust-bathing on the Salakee Farm track

Hawfinch – 1 in a garden behind Star Castle.

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Purple Sandpiper – 2 on Old Town Quay.

White Wagtail – 3 on St. Agnes.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing by the pumping station at Lower Moors.

Fieldfare – 4 in the horse paddocks on Pungies Lane.

Mistle Thrush – 1 with the Fieldfare in the horse paddocks on Pungies Lane.

Wheatear – 1 on the airfield, 7 on St. Agnes and 1 near the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Black Redstart – 2 at the airport, 2 in a garden on Trench Lane, 5 at Little Porth, 2 at Carn Leh, 7 at Porthloo, 7 on St. Agnes and 1 near the Daymark, St. Martin’s.

Brambling – 21 at Longstone, 9 in a garden on Jackson’s Hill and 2 in a garden behind Star Castle.

Tuesday (29/03) 

Hoopoe – 1 was seen on the Golf Course.

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Little Egret – 5 at Porthloo.

Purple Sandpiper – 5 on Old Town Quay.

Stock Dove – 1 at Rosehill. and 1 Watermill.

Sandwich Tern – 4 New Grimsby and 1 Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Cuckoo – 1 in the brambles below the eastern side of the airfield.

Sand Martin – 8 over Porth Hellick Pool.

Swallow – 1 over the Golf Course, 1 over Porth Hellick Pool and 4 over the Great Pool, Tresco.

White Wagtail – 2 at Parting Carn and 3 on Tresco Heliport.

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 singing at Porth Hellick Pool.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still at Little Porth.

Willow Warbler – An obvious arrival, 20+? St. Mary’s, 10+ St. Agnes and 7 by the church on Tresco.

Ring Ouzel – 1 at Peacehaven.

Fieldfare – 1 on St. Agnes.

Redwing – 2 at Parting Carn.

Wheatear – 1 Helvear, 4 Salakee Down, 1 Porthloo Beach, 2 between the airport turning circle and Porth Minnick, 1 Little Porth and 3 on St. Agnes.

Black Redstart – 2 in the Airport Fields above Ennor, 5 between the airport turning circle and Porth Minnick, 8 at Little Porth, 4 at Porthloo, 1 Content Farm, 1 Peninnis, 1 at Pelistry Riding Stables, 1 Salakee, 1 Four Lanes and 2 at New Grimsby, Tresco.

Brambling – 12 in a garden on Jackson’s Hill, 6 Four Lanes, 1 in a garden behind Star Castle, 1 in a garden in Holy Vale, 2 on the Golf Course, 3 Bant’s Carn.

Wednesday (30/03)

Garganey – The drake was still on Porth Hellick Pool.

Hawfinch – 1 again in a garden behind Star Castle (photo).

Little Grebe – 1 on Porth Hellick Pool, this is a scarce bird on Scilly (photo).

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Pelistry Bay.

Puffin – C 20-30 reported at Scilly Rock by St. Agnes Boats.

Manx shearwater – C100 off Deep Point.

Merlin – At Porth Hellick Point.

Cuckoo – 1 still in the brambles below the eastern side of the airfield.

Sand Martin – 2 over Porth Hellick Pool.

Siberian Chiffchaff – The ringed bird was still at Little Porth.

Willow Warbler – Still widespread and obvious, including 10 trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick Ringing Station. Also plenty of Chiffchaffs singing.

Garden Warbler – The first of the year was one at Watermill. This is the earliest ever arrival on Scilly. The previous earliest was on Ap 3rd 1958.

Wheatear – 3 on the Garrison, 3 on Salakee Down and 2 at Deep Point.

Black Redstart – 10 on the Garrison, 4+ at Little Porth, 1 Porth Hellick Beach, 2 at Deep Point, 1 Parting Carn and 1 at the Blockhouse, Tresco.

Brambling – 3 at Rock Hill, 3 on Kittydown, 3 in a garden behind Star Castle and 1 trapped and ringed at Porth Hellick Ringing Station.

Thursday (31/03)

Hawfinch – 1 still in a garden behind Star Castle.

Purple Sandpiper – 3 Old Town Bay.

Sand Martin – 4 battling their way north over the airfield into a Force 6 headwind.

Swallow – 1 over Rosehill and 1 St. Agnes.

Black Redstart – 4 on Porthloo Beach and 1 at the Woolpack Battery on the Garrison,

Brambling – 2 at Rocky Hill.
