Sunday

Whimbrel & 9 Greenshank were in Porth Hellick Bay and a Green Sandpiper flew over the airfield. A Sooty Shearwater flew past Giant’s Castle and 15 Mediterranean Gull, a Yellow-legged Gull & 34 Sandwich Tern were at Porthcressa. A Pied Flycatcher was in the bushes at Newford duck Pond.

On Tresco there were 11 Greenshank, 8 Redshank, a  Common Sandpiper, 12 Dunlin, 4 Yellow-legged Gull & a Kingfisher.

Whimbrel & a Wheatear were on St. Martin’s and a Cory’s Shearwater flew past the Daymark.

Redstart was on Bryher and 4 Little Egret were on Samson.

The highlights of the daytime “ Birders Special” pelagic trip 6 miles south of St. Mary’s were 6 Great Shearwater, 2 Sooty Shearwater, a Balearic Shearwater, a Great Skua and 20 Common Dolphin.

Monday

Purple Heron was roosting with Grey Heron on Stony Island and then flew to Samson a Knot, 20 Dunlin, a Bar-tailed Godwit were on Samson and nearby 2 Curlew Sandpiper were on Green Island,

Green Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpiper & a Common Sandpiper flew over Hugh Town in the night and Green Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpipe & 2 Snipe were on Porth Hellick Pool in the day. A  Great Skua flew past Giant’s Castle and a Pied Flycatcher & a Spotted Flycatcher were on the Garrison near the Steval.

Another kayak trio to Tresco produced 5 Little Egret, 2 Kingfisher and a Pied Flycatcher. 31 Mediterranean Gull were between Tresco and Bryher.

The last trip of the first weekend “ Birders’ Special” pelagics went 6 miles south of St. Mary’s and continued the good form. Birds seen included 44 Great Shearwater, 5 Cory’s Shearwater, a Sooty Shearwater, 6 Wilson’s Storm-petrel and 80 European Storm-petrel. Also seen were 6 Bluefin Tuna & 10 Common Dolphin and a 60 pound Blue Sharkwas caught tagged & released.
