The DNA analysis of sample from the “Porth Hellick” Flycatcher suspected to be a Mediterranean Flycatcher have been received. It was a Spotted Flycatcher,

Monday (22/04)

Richards Pipit – 1 in Popplestone Fields, Bryher.

Water Pipit – 1 by Bryher Pool.

Purple Heron 1 still in field adjacent to Rosehill Gardens. At one time it was actually on the pavement by the road!

Montagu’s Harrier – A female was seen over various locations on St. Mary’s.

Hen Harrier – 1 flew east past the airfield.

Osprey – 1 flew over St. Mary’s and 2 were later seen over St. Martin’s.

Red Kite – 1 flew over Maypole and 2 over Higher Town, St. Martin’s.

Golden Oriole – 1 calling in the elms on the west side of Trenoweth and 1 possibly 2 calling in Carreg Dhu Gardens.

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Porth Mellon, 1 off Morning Point, 1 off Annet , 1 in Great Bay, St. Martin’s and 4 between St. Agnes and St. Mary’s.

Common Sandpiper – 1 at Shark’s ;pit,

Purple Sandpiper – 28+ on Bishop Rock and 3 on Melledgen, Western Rocks.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 4 on St. Martin’s Flats.

Whimbrel – 9 on Tresco and 2 on St. Martin’s Flat.

Merlin – 1 flew past Higher Moors pimping station.

Cuckoo – 1 flew over the road at Carn Vean, 1 at Deep Point and 1 calling on Gugh.

Hooded Crow – 1 in fields above Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Rook – 3 over Borough Farm, Tresco and what was most likely the same 3 were later seen on the golf course

Firecrest – 1 in Carreg Dhu Gardens.

Common Whitethroat – 2 on St. Martin’s.

Ring Ouzel – 1 still on the coastal path at Porth Hellick down and a male on the Golf Course.

Redpoll – 1 flew over Trenoweth.

Tuesday (23/04) 

Black Kite – 1 flew over Lower Moors and then drifted over Holy Vale and Kittydown.

Montagu’s Harrier – The female was still on St, Mary’s. It was seen hunting over various fields between Pelistry and Salakee

Hen Harrier – 1 was around the Kittydown area.

Stone Curlew – 1 on Wingletang Down, St. Agnes (picture). This a scarce bird on Scilly.

Purple Heron – 1 still at Rosehill, looking decidedly lethargic.

Richard’s Pipit – 1 still in Popplestone Fields, Bryher.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still in gorse between the runways on the airport and 1 at Carn Friars (photo)/

Golden Oriole – A male flew out of a hedge near Carreg Dhu.

Shoveler – A pair on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Pochard – 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco.

Common Sandpiper – 4 at Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Whimbrel – 4 at Pendrathen, 1 flew northwest over Tremelethen Farm and 2 at Cove Vean, St. Agnes.

Merlin – 1 flew west over Longstone, 1 over Higher Moors and on Castle Down, Treco.

Common Swift – 1 over Holy Vale.

Cuckoo – 1 at Deep Point Quarry, 1 over Higher Moors, 1 behind the shop on St, Agnes and 1 at St. Martin’s Vineyard.

Jackdaw – 1 still in the cattle fields above St. Warna’s Cove. St. Agnes.

Tree Pipit – 1 flew southeast over Tremelethen Farm.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 reeling near New Grimsby, Tresco.

Ring Ouzel – Now 2 on the Porth Hellick Down coastal Path, 1 near the lighthouse on Peninnis and 1 on Castle Down, Treco.

Wednesday (24/04)

Black Kite ­ – 1 showing on and off all day on St. Mary’s (photo). It also visited Tresco.

Red Kite – 1 with the Black Kite on Tresco

Montagu’s Harrier – The female was still on St. Mary’s (photo).

Hen Harrier – A female seen as couple of times on St. Marys. 

Marsh Harrier – 1 flew northeast over Tresco.

Stone Curlew – 1 on Porth Hellick Down.

Pink-footed Goose – 2 still on the flood near St. Nicholas Church, Tresco

Great Northern Diver – 1 in Town Bay and 2 in Porth Mellon.

Whimbrel – 2 on Porth Hellick Beach.

Purple Sandpiper – 10 on Puffin Island.

Cuckoo – 1 Porth Hellick Down.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 on Porth Hellick Down, 1 still on the airfield and 1 by Tresco Heliport.

Golden Oriole – 1 in the pines behind Carreg Dhu.

Rook – 1 on Bryher.

Firecrest – 1 on Tresco.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still in the bushes by Shooters’ Pool, St. Mary’s.

Ring Ouzel – A male on the Golf Course, 1 at Gimble Porth, Tresco and 1 on Castle Down, Tresco,

Tree Pipit – 1 on Porth Hellick Down..

Yellow Wagtail – 1 on Tresco Cricket Pitch

Thursday (25/04)

Black Kite – 1 still around St. Mary’s.

Montagu’s Harrier – The female was still on St. Mary’s.

Great Crested Grebe – 1 was in Periglis Bay, St. Agnes. This is a scarce bird on Scilly.

Pintail – 1 on the flooded cricket field on St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 2 Porth Mellon and 2 at Bar Point.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 1 on Middle Town Beach, St. Martin’s.

Whimbrel –3 flew east past the airfield turning circle, 1 on Old Town beach and 1 at Bar Point.

Merlin – 1 flew over Porth Hellick Bay.

Cuckoo – 1 Giant’s Castle (photo).

Rook – 3 flew over Old Town towards Peninnis , 1 flew over the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors and 2 flew southwest over Racket Town, Tresco.

Golden Oriole – Still at Carreg Dhu(photo) and 1 at Lower Town, St. Martin’s.

Siberian Chiffchaff – 1 still by Shooters’ Pool, Lower Moors.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 reeling on Porth Hellick Loop.#

Cetti’s Warbler – 1 in the Standing Stones Field, Lower Moors.

Lesser Whitethroat – A very vocal bird in gorse beside the coastal path from Porth Hellick to Salakee Down.

Ring Ouzel – 1 still on Porth Hellick Down coastal Path and 1 near the windsock on the airfield.

Whinchat – 1 on the fence of a cattle field behind Great Porth, Bryher.

Redpoll – 1 in the pine belt east of Carn Friars.

Siskin – 1 at Longstone.

Friday (26/04)

Stone Curlew – 1 on St. Agnes at Horse Point and Wingletang Down was very flighty.

Montagu’s Harrier – 1 over Mount Todden heading towards Carn Vean.

Hen Harrier – 1 flew through Kittydown.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still in a field on Carn Friars Farm and 1 at Deep Point.

Golden Oriole – A female type dropped into the pines behind Longstone Terrace.

Pink-footed Goose – 2 on the flood near St.Nicholas’s Church, Tresco.

Pintail – 1 on the flood on St. Martin’s cricket pitch.

Great Northern Diver – 4 off Tobaccoman’s Point, Tresco, 3 in the Roads and 1 by Church Quay, Bryher.

European Storm-petrel – 1 in Scilly Waters, seen from the Scillonian III on the morning crossing from Penzance to St. Mary’s.

Whimbrel – 10 at Giant’s Castle,1 in/off at Peninnis, 3 Old Town Bay and 1 Porthloo.

Green Sandpiper – 1 on the flood on St. Martin’s cricket pitch.

Short-eared Owl – 1 circling high over Wingletang, St. Agnes. It then flew over Horse Point and on towards the Bishop. It or another was seen in the afternoon at Carn Near, Tresco.

Merlin – 1 flew over St. Agnes Campsite.

Cuckoo – 1 on Porth Hellick Down and 1 on Little Arthur Farm, St. Martin’s.

Grasshopper Warbler – 1 reeling in fields above the New Inn, Tresco.

Common Whitethroat – 1 singing between Abbey Pool and Pentle Bay, Tresco.

Ring Ouzel –1 still on Porth Hellick Down Coastal Path, 1 on Peninnis, 1 still on Castle down, Tresco and a female on Horse Pont, St. Agnes.

Saturday (27/04)

Tree Sparrow – 1 in a ploughed field on Troy Town Farm (photo). This is a rare bird on Scilly and the first one since 2019.

Stone Curlew – 1 still on St. Agnes.

Montagu’s Harrier – The female was still around St. Mary’s.

Hen Harrier – 1 over Salakee Farm.

Marsh Harrier – A female flew over Porth Hellick Down.

Common Buzzard – 1 flew over Porth He lick down towards Longstone.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still on the airfield, 1 still on Porth Hellick Down and 1 in the Orchard Maze on Carn Friars Farm.

Golden Oriole – 1 heard on the south side of Carreg Dhu and a female type flew from Sandy Banks across the road and into the field adjacent to Rosehill Gardens.

Rook – 1 at McFarland Down.

Pintail – 1 on the flooded cricket pitch on St. Martin’s.

Great Northern Diver – 2 Tresco Channel.

Common Sandpiper – 1 on the Great Pool, Tresco and 1 on the flooded cricket pitch on St. Martin’s.

Whimbrel – 47 on St. Agnes, 10 at Rushy Bay, Bryher, 8 0n St. Martin’s and 1 at Porth Hellick.

Merlin – A female on St. Martin’s.

Cuckoo– 1 singing at Deep Point and 1 between Trenoweth & Bristow.

Common Swift – 1 flew over Porth Hellick and 1 flew over St. Agnes Lighthouse.

Firecrest – 1 in the field next to Rosehill Gardens.

Lesser Whitethroat – 1 singing in the pines between Porth Hellick and Salakee Down.

Common Whitethroat – 1 singing on the path from Longstone to Holy Vale.

Whinchat – 1 east of Great Porth, Bryher.

Tree Pipit – 1 Sandy Banks Farm.

Siskin – 2 flew over McFarland Down.

Sunday (28/04)

White-billed Diver – A “probable” flew north over Higher Town, St. Martin’s.

Yellowhammer – 1 on Bryher briefly at Rushy Bay and then flew towards Hillside Farm. As with the Tree Sparrow, this is also a rare bird on Scilly and the first record since 2019.

Tree Sparrow – 1 still around Troy Town Farm, St. Agnes.

Montagu’s Harrier – 1 hunting opposite Lower Town, St. Martin’s and then continued west over White Island and onto Tresco and later seen over Porth Hellick Down.

Hen Harrier – 1 at Tremelethen drifted high towards Normandy.

Woodchat Shrike – 1 still in a field by the Carn Friars Farm track, 1 still on Porth Hellick Down, 1 still on the airfield and 1 still on Tresco, north of Carn Near.

Great Northern Diver – 10 on the “ Seabird Special “ boat trip, 1 in Great Bay, Bryher.

Golden Plover – 1 on the airfield.

Common Sandpiper – 1 on Bryher and 1 flew over Hugh Town.

Purple Sandpiper – 2 on the “ Seabird Special “ boat trip.

Bar-tailed Godwit – 5 on the “ Seabird Special “ boat trip.

Whimbrel – 30 on the “ Seabird Special “ boat trip, 3 on Bryher, 3 on St. Agnes and 12 on St.Mary’s.

Merlin – 1 on Tresco and 1 on the Plains, St. Martin’s,

Mediterranean Gull – 1 in Tresco Channel.

Common Swift – 1 over Lower Moors and 1 over Kitty Down.

Cuckoo – 1 Deep Point, 1 Helvear, 1 near Lower Town, St. Martin’s, 1 on Bryher and 1 on Tresco

Hooded Crow – 1 flew southwest over Troy Town, St. Agnes.

Rook – 2 flew over Longstone
