Saturday 14th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Agnes – A Greenshank, 5 Common Sandpiper and a Black-tailed Godwit.

St. Martin’s – 120 Sanderling, 4 Little Tern ( an adult & 3 juveniles), a Wheatear and 2 Raven.

Birders on the all day pelagic saw 3 Sooty Shearwaters, 30 Manx Shearwaters, 60+ European Storm-petrels, an Arctic Skua and 5 Great Skuas.

Friday 13th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – 4 Mediterranean Gulls at Porthloo, a Ruff & a Snipe at Porth Hellick and a Green Sandpiper in Lower Moors.

St. Agnes – The Lesser Yellowlegs was still commuting between the Big Pool and Porth Killier.

St. Martin’s – Now 4 Little Terns off Lower Town.

Bryher - A Mediterranean Gull, a Hooded Crow, 4 Little Egret and 4 Willow Warblers.

The afternoon pelagic trip produced a Balearic, Sooty & 15 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Great Skua, 30 European Storm-petrel and an amazing 70+ Bottlenose Dolphins.

Thursday 12th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Mediterranean Gull at Porthloo and 2 Green Sandpipers in Lower Moors.

St. Agnes – The Lesser Yellowlegs was still commuting between the Big Pool and Porth Killier.

St. Martin’s – 3 Little Terns off Lower Town.

Samson – The Spoonbill still present.

2 Basking Shark were in Tresco Channel.

Wednesday 11th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Ruff, 7 Greenshank, 4 Green & 3 Common Sandpipers. A sea-watch from Giant’s Castle produced 100+ Manx Shearwater, a Great Shearwater, a European Storm-petrel & a Basking Shark.

St. Agnes – The Lesser Yellowlegs was still commuting between the Big Pool and Porth Killier.

Tuesday 10th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – 6 Greenshank, a Ruff, 6 Common & 4 Green Sandpipers at Porth Hellick, 4 Mediterranean Gulls and 4 Dunlin at Porthloo, a Hobby over Lower Moors and a Spotted Crake on Lower Moors Loop early morning.

St. AgnesLesser Yellowlegs, 50 Ringed Plover, 50 Turnstone, 20+ Sanderling, 20+ Dunlin. 5 Black-tailed Godwit and a summer plumage Knot.

Monday 9th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s - 4 Green Sandpiper, 6 Common Sandpiper, a juvenile Ruff, a Whimbrel and a Crossbill at Porth Hellick. 4 Green Sandpiper at the pool behind the dump, 2 juvenile Mediterranean Gull at Porthloo, 4 Dunlin Hugh Town and 6 Wheatear on the Golf Course.

St. Agnes – A Lesser Yellowlegs on the Big Pool and elsewhere on the island, 8 Dunlin, 25 Sanderling, a Whimbrel and 2 Wheatear.

Samson - The Spoonbill was still present.

Tresco - A Pintail.

On the evening pelagic trip birders saw a Sooty Shearwater, a Great Shearwater, a Wilson’s Storm-petrel, 50+ European Storm-petrel, a Sabine’s Gull, 3 Great Skua, 30 Common Dolphin and 4 Blue Sharks were caught, tagged & released,

Sunday 8th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Agnes – 20 Sanderling, 2 Common Sandpiper and a Dunlin.

Tresco – A Dunlin and a Sunfish north of the island.

Samson – The Spoonbill was still present.

Teän - A Whimbrel, 60+ Curlew and a Greenshank.

There were still at least 4 Basking Shark in inter-island waters.

Birders on a daytime pelagic saw the first Great Shearwater of the year, also seen were 70+ European Storm-petrel, 3+ Sooty Shearwater,4 Great Skua and 2 Minke Whale.

Saturday 7th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Whimbrel at Bar Point, a Mediterranean Gull at Porthloo, a Cuckoo at Giant’s Castle, a wheatear on Peninnis and 5 Greenshank, a Green & 6 common Sandpipers at Porth Hellick.

Tresco – 14 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier and 2 Common Sandpiper.

Samson - The Spoonbill was still present.

St. Agnes – 3 Wheatear and a Basking Shark offshore.

At sea – A Great Skua was seen on the Scillonian crossing. The daytime pelagic produced A Grey Phalarope, a Sooty Shearwater, 2 Great Skua 30+ European Storm-petrel, 3 Common Dolphin. 2 Basking Shark and a Blue Shark.

Friday 6th August 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Kingfisher, a juvenile Cuckoo, 3+ Crossbill, a Green and 5 Common Sandpipers at Porth Hellick. A Wood Sandpiper briefly in the afternoon at Lower Moors.

An evening pelagic trip produced a Wilson’s Storm-petrel, a Sooty Shearwater and an Arctic Skua.
