Wednesday 1st December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Spoonbill, 2 Firecrests, a Siberian Chiffchaff, 2 Jack Snipe, 17 Teal and 15 Lapwing at Porth Hellick, 2 Siberian Chiffchaff at Lower Moors and a Water Pipit & a Black Redstart on the beach below the Quay car park.

St. Agnes – 30 Golden Plover, 10 Lapwings, a Jack Snipe and 15 Teal.

Tuesday 30th November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A very cold day but warmer than the mainland, with consequent cold weather movement. There were 30 Golden Plovers and 22 Lapwings on the airfield, there were other small flocks of Lapwing and Golden Plovers around the island as well as Redwings, Fieldfares. Chaffinches and Meadow Pipits flying over in numbers. The Water Pipit & a Black Redstart were still on the beach below the quay car park and 25 unidentified “grey geese flew over high heading towards Peninnis. A female Goldeneye ( a scarce bird on Scilly, less than annual) was in Porthloo with a female Red-breasted Merganser and the Spoonbill flew from Porth Mellon towards Old Town. A Pallas’s Warbler was seen and videoed on Porth Hellick Loop trail, unfortunately it was only seen by the finder and could not be relocated, by way of compensation there were 2 Firecrests and a Siberian Chiffchaff on the trail and a Crossbill flew over. 2+ Siberian chiffchaff, a Little Grebe & 10 Common Teal were at Porth Hellick and 22 Common snipe were flushed from a boggy field on Carn Friars farm. A Yellow-browed Warbler. 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs and a Firecrest were in Lower Moors.

Monday 29th November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Water Pipit & a Black Redstart on the beach below the Quay car park. Another Black Redstart at Little Porth and a Brambling & a Great Northern Diver flew over Hugh Town. A Siberian Chiffchaff was in the bushes near Higher Moors pumping station and a Skylark & a Common Buzzard flew over there. 3 Knot were on Porth Hellick Beach and 20 Lapwings flew over the golf course. 20 Siskin & a Brambling flew over the dump and 17 Bar-tailed Godwits & a Whimbrel were at Bar Point

Sunday 28th November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese at Porth Mellon were joined by a fourth bird and a Spoonbill was at Porth Hellick. 16 Bar-tailed Godwits, 9 Curlews, a Whimbrel & a Common Gull at Bar Point. a Black Redstart on Porthcressa Beach and 3 Common Gulls at Porth Mellon.

St. Martin’s – 2 Snow Buntings above the hotel.

Saturday 27th November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – Today was a day for Firecrests with 3 at Porth Hellick, 2 in Lower Moors and 1 in the Dump Clump. also on the island were 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese at Porth Mellon and a Little Grebe at Lower Moors.

St. Mary’s – 3 Firecrests, a Jack snipe, a drake Wigeon and a Common Buzzard at Lower Moors. A female Great Spotted Woodpecker at Porth Hellick and Pale-bellied Brent Geese & a Red-breasted Merganser at Porth Mellon.

St. Martin’s – A Greenland and a Lesser Redpoll.

Wednesday 24th November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

The Spoonbill was still feeding in Old Town Bay and 3 Great Northern Divers and a Black-throated Diver were seen off Star Castle. 3 Firecrests & a Reed Bunting were at Porth Hellick and a Yellow-browed Warbler, 2+ Siberian Chiffchaffs. a Firecrest & 3 Brambling were in Lower Moors.

Tuesday 23rd November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Yellow-browed Warbler & a Firecrest in the Dump Clump, a Yellow-browed Warbler. a Firecrest & 3 Siberian Chiffchaffs in Lower Moors and 5 Firecrests at Porth Hellick and a Cetti’s Warbler on Porth Hellick Loop trail. A couple of hours at the north end of the island produced a Black Redstart at Bar Point and 10 Great Northern Divers, 3 Common Scoters, 16 Bar-tailed Godwits & an adult Iceland Gull off Innisidgen.

Monday 22nd November 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Spoonbill flew over the dump towards Old Town, a Yellow-browed Warbler & 3 Siberian Chiffchaffs at Lower Moors and 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs and 2 Firecrests at Porth Hellick.
