Saturday 1st January 2011 IoS Bird Reports

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND WEBSITE VISITORS FROM ISBG

St Mary’s - A Slavonian Grebe & a possible female Goosander off Innisidgen and looking at Tresco from St. Mary’s a Long-tailed Duck, a Black-throated Diver & a Mediterranean Gull in Pentle Bay and an unseasonal Sandwich Tern off South Beach. Long-eared Owls were seen at Rosehill and Parting Carn and a Jack Snipe was on Porth Hellick Pool. 2 Firecrests were in Higher Moors, the Rose-coloured Starling was still at Telegraph, a Spoonbill was in Old Town Bay and a at least 1 Waxwing was around the Old Town area.

29th-31st December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The Rose-coloured Starling was at Telegraph Wednesday to Friday and a Long-eared Owl was also there on Thursday. Other birds on Friday 31st were: Firecrest at Holy Vale and Common Buzzard over, Lapwing (37) at Telegraph, Woodcock 1 at Holy Vale and another at Salakee, Peregrine over Higher Moors, Sanderling (19) at Porthlo, Mistle Thrush in field along Telegraph Road and 83 Blackbirds counted from Telegraph to Salakee.

St. Mary’s – 2 Spoonbills at Porthcressa.

Tresco – A Black-necked Grebe, 4 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Scaup, a Long-tailed Duck and a Firecrest.

St. Mary’s – A Mediterranean Gull in Porthcressa, a Mistle Thrush opposite Bishop’s View on Porthloo Lane and a Whimbrel at Pendrathen

St. Mary’s – The Rose-coloured Starling was still at Telegraph, a Black Redstart was at Little Porth, a Firecrest was on the Porth Hellick Loop and a Spoonbill was in Old Town Bay.

Samson – A Spoonbill on Green Island.

Saturday 25th December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The first-winter Rose-coloured Starling was still at Telegraph, 3 Slavonian Grebes were off Innisidgen and 2 Waxwings were in Hugh Town. Late news from 24/12 a Snow Bunting was on Peninnis.

Tresco - A Long-tailed Duck was in Pentle Bay.

Samson – 3 Spoonbills were on Green Island.

Friday 24th December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The first-winter Rose-coloured Starling was still at Telegraph, a Spoonbill & a Kingfisher at Old Town Bay, a Mistle Thrush was at Porthloo and a Black Redstart was at Little Porth.

TrescoCetti’s Warbler, 4 Pink-footed Geese, a Scaup, a Red-breasted Merganser, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Firecrest.

Samson – A spoonbill.

Thursday 23rd December 2010 IoS Bird Report

St. Mary’s – A Rose-coloured Starling was in a garden at Telegraph, according to the house-holder for a 3rd day! A Firecrest was in Lower Moors, a Black Redstart was at Little Porth, a Mistle Thrush was at Carn Friars and a Spoonbill was in Old Town Bay. 2 Waxwings were in Old Town and in Hugh Town one flew over Church Street & one was in a garden on Sallyport.

Samson – A Spoonbill.

St. Agnes – A Kite sp. was seen over Annet.

Wednesday 22nd December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

The only reports for Wednesday were a Spoonbill on Samson and a Mistle Thrush on Porthloo Lane, St. Mary’s.

Tuesday 21st December 2010 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – 3 Siberian Chiffchaffs, a Firecrest, a female Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Mistle Thrushes, 2 Jack Snipe, an adult male Merlin, a drake Pochard, a female Wigeon, 17 Teal, a Grey Plover, a Brambling, 30+ Lapwing, 30+ Snipe, a Siskin, 51 Fieldfare and 80+ Redwing were at Porth Hellick. A Black-throated Diver, 7 Common Scoters, 4 Great Northern Divers and 11 Little Egrets were seen from Carn Morval. A Black Redstart was on Porth Cressa beach and another was at Little Porth.

Samson – A Spoonbill on Green Island.
