Wednesday 20th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - *PALLID SWIFT* again over Harry’s Walls at 10.30hrs with Common Swifts . RED-RUMPED SWALLOW flew over Parting Carn at 18.35hrs.

St Martin’s - NIGHTJAR (male) between Higher Town and Little Arthur Farm at c09.30hrs. Also Spotted Flycatcher at Middletown this morning and Golden Oriole in elms and bushes by cricket pitch this afternoon.

2009 Rarity Gallery

The 2009 Gallery is in the process of being updated and currently has some superb photos of the the recent rarities on the islands including Little Bittern, Pallid Swift, Great Reed Warbler, Red-throated Pipit and Red-rumped Swallows. The gallery will be reserved for the best quality rarity shots and thanks to all who have contributed photos up to now, there are more to add, so please be patient while the gallery is compiled.

St Mary’s - *PALLID SWIFT* again over Higher Moors and Holy Vale at 17.15hrs. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW over Lunnon Farm at 13.50hrs. Quail at Salakee Downs this morning.

St Agnes - Hobby over Covean at 11.00hrs. Also Spotted Flycatcher.

Monday 18th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - *PALLID SWIFT* again over Porth Hellick Pool today and showing well. *LITTLE BITTERN* (fem) at Lower Moors at 15.30hrs then flew towards Old Town. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW (2) between Innisdgen and Bar Point late afternoon and One over sluice at Porth Hellick Pool early morning. Jackdaw (2) at Holy Vale at 13.35hrs.

St Mary’s -*PALLID SWIFT* over Porth Hellick Pool and showing well. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW  in Higher Moors/Porth Hellick area. Iceland Gull still at Dump this morning.

Saturday 16th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - **GREAT REED WARBLER** at Porth Hellick Pool from Seaward Hide and showing well. *LITTLE BITTERN* (male) flushed from Telegraph end of Lower Moors this morning. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW  (2) in Higher Moors/Porth Hellick area. Hobby over Higher Moors this morning. Wood Warbler singing at Rosehill end of Lower Moors trail at 14.20hrs.

Bryher - WOODCHAT SHRIKE again in cattle field below Vine Farm.

Friday 15th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - **GREAT REED WARBLER** at Porth Hellick Pool from Seaward Hide tho elusive. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW  - up to three birds still on the island still today mainly in Lowers Moors area.. GOLDEN ORIOLE flew from Lower Moors towards airfield late afternoon. Hobby over Kitty Downs and Turtle Dove (2) in maypole area.

Bryher - WOODCHAT SHRIKE still in Vine Farm area.

Thursday 14th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - **GREAT REED WARBLER** at Porth Hellick Pool from Seaward Hide and showing well *LITTLE BITTERN* (fem) again flew over track at Lower Moors and landed in reeds at 14.45hrs. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW still over pumping station at Higher Moors this afternoon and showing well. Turtle Dove (2) on wires west of Holy Vale Farm this evening and Siskin over. GN Diver in Porthcressa Bay and Iceland Gull still.

St Agnes - *RED-THROATED PIPIT* (sum.plum male) still this morning at Browarth. Also Lapland Bunting (fem)again.

Wednesday 13th May 2009 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s - **GREAT REED WARBLER** this evening at Porth Hellick Pool from Stephen Sussex hide. RED-RUMPED SWALLOW (2) over Pines and cattle fields at Mount Todden Farm late morning then one on wires between Borough Farm and Green Farm at 12.20hrs. Golden Oriole at Porth Hellick House late afternoon. Probable Ashy-headed Wagtail and Blue-headed Wagtail at Porth Hellick Pool this morning, also Hobby over and Black-tailed Godwit (2). Golden Oriole at Lower Moors this morning and one at Salakee this afternoon. Iceland Gull again at Dump and Lesser Whitethroat at Longstones.

St Agnes - *RED-THROATED PIPIT* (sum.plum male) singing this morning at Porth Coose. Lapland Bunting (fem)again at Browarth

Bryher - WOODCHAT SHRIKE (male) still at Vine Farm this morning. Also Golden Oriole on island.
