Sunday 20th February 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’s – Seen from Bar Point- drake Long-tailed Duck, adult Black-throated Diver, 7 imm/fem Common Scoter, 2 Slavonian Grebe and the 3rd winter Yellow-legged Gull.

At Carn Moval a male and female Merlin. Up to 8 Little Egret and 9 Great northern Diver. 3 Whimbrel and 29 Bar-tailed Godwit were at Bar Point.

St Mary’s – off Star Castle: Black-throated Diver and 14 Great Northern Diver. From Innisidgen. 2 Slavonian Grebe and 11 Great Northern Diver. Plus 1 Black-necked Grebe and a RED-NECKED GREBE.

St. Mary’s – 2 Razorbills & 15 Great Northern Divers on the sea, seen from Star Castle, a first-winter Glaucous Gull briefly in Porthcressa and 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls at Porth Mellon, 1 was also seen at Porthloo.

St. Mary’s – A Blackcap singing near Star Castle and looking over the sea from there – a Black-throated Diver & 18 Great Northern Divers. A visit to the Porth Hellick/Salakee area at dusk produced a Firecrest & a Short-eared Owl.

St Mary’sShort-eared Owl, Wigeon, Teal (pr) at Porth Hellick. Common Scoter, Razorbill (5) and GN Diver (12) on the sea from Star Castle.

St Mary’sLong-eared Owl, ‘Siberian’ Chiffchaff, Goldcrest (6), Woodcock (6), Snipe (15) and Redwing (50+) at Lower Moors. Also Whimbrel (4) and Curlew (20) at Bar Point

St Agnes - ‘Siberian’ Chiffchaff (2) and Goldcrest (5) roosting in the Old Observatory Garden each night.

Saturday 12th February 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St Mary’sBrent Goose (6 dark-bellied) off Bar Point. Also  Whimbrel (8) and Bar-tailed Godwit.

TrescoPink-footed Goose (4), Brent Goose (2 pale bellied), Short-eared Owl, Long-tailed Tit (4) and Little Grebe on the island today

St Mary’sYellow-legged Gull (3w) flew from Porthloo to Newfort Island, Porthloo. Also Black redstart on beach below the quay car park.

St Mary’s - Mistle Thrush(3), Wigeon (2), Teal (6), Curlew (9), Lapwing (7), Greenshank (4), Redshank and Snipe (4) in Porth Hellick/Higher Moors area this afternoon. Long-Eared Owl (2) still in the Salakee/Poth Hellick area.
