Sunday 4th December 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – There was an influx of 20+ Woodcock on the island with 11 in Lower Moors, 8 at Porth Hellick and 2 at Content. A Dusky Warbler, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and 2 Siberian Chiffchaff were still in Lower Moors. The Dusky Warbler had a ring on its right leg, so was almost certainly the bird ringed at Porth Hellick on 19th November. A Yellow-browed Warbler & 2 Firecrests were in Holy Vale, a Siberian Chiffchaff was at Newford Duck Pond, a Black Redstart was on Porthloo Beach and a Long-eared Owl was at Rosehill.

Friday 2nd December 2011 IoS Bird Reports

A boat trip in between the islands produced 3 Spoonbills on Green Island, near Samson, a Great Northern Diver in The Roads and 2 first-winter drake Eiders near Tresco. The hybrid Shelduck was also seen again, possibly Cape x Ruddy Shelduck.

St. Mary’s – A Dusky Warbler, a Yellow-browed Warbler and 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs were still in Lower Moors. The first-winter drake Eider was in the harbour and a Whimbrel was at Bar Point

Thursday 1st December 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The Northern Waterthrush was seen again for the first time in over a week, this time in the Dump Clump. It was first seen on September 16th, so it has now been recorded in 4 different calendar months. The 2 Dusky Warblers, 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs and a Yellow-browed Warbler were still in Lower Moors. Another Yellow-browed Warbler was at Lunnon Farm and 2 Black Redstarts were on Porthcressa Beach.

Sunday 27th November 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Blue Winged Teal was found in the afternoon on Porth Hellick Pool also in the area were 2 Firecrests and a Siberian Chiffchaff. A Dusky Warbler, 2 Siberian Chiffchaff, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Jack Snipe were in Lower Moors. Another Dusky Warbler (perhaps one of the two that were in Lower Moors last week) was found on the corner of Porthloo Lane and the road leading to Mount Flagon.

Saturday 26th November 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Dusky Warbler was still in Lower Moors, the Yellow-browed Warbler was still at Rosehill and the first-winter drake Eider was still in Hugh Town Harbour. 4 Black Restarts were at Little Porth, 1 was at Porthloo and 1 was in Old Town.

Tresco – 2 Scaup, 2 first-winter drake Eiders, a drake Shoveler, a Black Redstart and a Firecrest.

Friday 25th November 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – A Dusky Warbler, a Yellow-browed Warbler and 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs were in Lower Moors. Single Yellow-browed Warblers were also at Rosehill, the Dump clump & Newford Duck Pond and the first-winter drake Eider was still by Hugh Town Quay.

Thursday 24th November 2011 IoS Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The Wilson’s Snipe & the 2 Dusky Warblers were still in Lower Moors and nearby the Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in the Dump Clump were there was also a Willow Warbler. A Yellow-browed Warbler was still by Newford Duck Pond and another Yellow-browed Warbler was at Lunnon Farm along with a Firecrest. A Firecrest & 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs were at Porth Hellick and a Short-eared Owl flew over Holy Vale.

Wednesday 23rd November 2011 Ios Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The Wilson’s Snipe, a Jack Snipe, the 2 Dusky Warblers, 2 Siberian Chiffchaff and a Yellow-browed Warbler were all in Lower Moors. Nearby a Yellow-browed Warbler was at Rosehill and another was at Newford Duck Pond. The Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in the Dump Clump and it or another was seen in the afternoon on Lower Broom Platform, The Garrison.

Tuesday 22nd November 2011 Ios Bird Reports

Mary’s - After it had not been seen for over a week the Northern Waterthrush showed again several times at various locations in Lower Moors. Also there were the 2 Dusky Warblers, the Wilson’s Snipe, 2 Jack Snipe, a Yellow-browed Warbler, 3 Willow Warblers and 40-50 Chiffchaffs, including at least 1 , possibly 3 Siberian Chiffchaffs. Nearby the Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in the Dump Clump were there was also 10 Chiffchaffs and a Dusky Warbler, probably 1 of the Lower Moors birds, as it was seen flying off in that direction. Single Yellow-browed Warblers were also seen at Rosehill, Newford Duck Pond and Higher Moors. 2 Black Redstarts were at Trenoweth Farm and another was on Porthloo Beach. A Swift, seen briefly flying over the airfield, was thought to be a Common Swift.

Monday 21st November 2011 Ios Bird Reports

St. Mary’s – The 2 Dusky Warblers were still in Lower Moors, also there were a Yellow-browed Warbler, a Siberian Chiffchaff and a Jack Snipe. The Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in the Dump Clump along with another Siberian Chiffchaff and a Yellow-browed Warbler was at Newford Duck Pond.
