Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd November 2017 IoS Bird Sightings

Wednesday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – The Radde’s Warbler was still at Borough Farm and 7 Hawfinches & 2 Bullfinches flew over there. A Hawfinch & a Firecrest were at Sunnyside Farm, a Black Redstart was on Holgate’s Green, a Yellow-browed Warbler & a Firecrest were in Carreg Dhu Gardens and a Yellow-browed Warbler was at Porth Hellick ringing station. The Water Pipit was still on Porth Hellick Beach and a Yellow-browed Warbler was in Lower Moors. 3 Yellow-browed Warblers & a Bullfinch were at higher Moors and 4 Yellow-browed Warblers & 2 Firecrests were on Porth Hellick Loop Trail. 25 Bramblings were in a field at the bottom of Pelistry Lane and 2 Great Northern Divers were off Watermill. There were 2 Firecrests on the Garrison & a Hawfinch flew over and a Black Redstart & a Yellow-browed Warbler were at Content.

St. Agnes – 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Garden Warbler and a Bullfinch.

Thursday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – Amongst the birds ringed at Porth Hellick were 4 Firecrests, a Yellow-browed Warbler and a Siberian Chiffchaff. The Radde’s Warbler was still showing very well at Borough Farm and the Surf Scoter & 5 Common Scoters in Crow sound, viewed from St. Mary’s. 2 Pochards, 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 Siberian Chiffchaff & Lesser Whitethroat were in Lower Moors and 2 Hawfinches flew over there. A Yellow-browed Warbler, a Firecrest and a Hawfinch were at Rosehill, the latter showing very well. Another Siberian Chiffchaff was at Newford Duck Pond and a female Bullfinch was at Higher Moors. 5 Black Redstarts were on Porth Mellon Beach, 1 was on the nearby industrial estate, 1 was in a garden on high Lanes and 2 were at the Airport Carpark.

St. Agnes – A Short-eared Owl and a Hawfinch.

Tresco – A Pale-bellied Brent Goose, a Pintail, 4 Wigeons, a female Goldeneye, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Firecrests, 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, 4 Lesser Redpolls and 15 Bramblings. A Yellow-legged Gull was off Bathing house Beach.

Samson – A Great Northern Diver was near the island and nearby the 2 Spoonbills were still on Green Island.

Friday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – There was a scattering of Black Redstarts around the island (12?). A Cattle Egret flew over Pelistry towards Porth Hellick. 15 Bramblings, 4 Lesser Redpolls and 20 Siskins were with several 100 Chaffinches in a weedy field opposite the Riding Stables. 2 Bramblings were in a garden on Jackson’s Hill and nearby 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs & 5 Yellow-browed Warblers were in Lower Moors, where 2 Hawfinches flew over. A Siberian Chiffchaffs and a Yellow-browed Warbler were at Newford Duck Pond. 2 Balearic Shearwaters were seen near the Eastern Isles from the Scillonian III.

St. Agnes – A Little Bunting was at Porth Killier.
