Wednesday 14th to Monday 19th January 2015 IoS Bird Sightings

Wednesday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – 4 Pale-bellied Brent Geese between Pendrathen and Bar Point.

Samson – A Spoonbill.

Thursday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – A Jack Snipe was in Lower Moors.

Friday’s birds were:

St. Agnes – A Jack Snipe and the first Skylark of the year.

Saturday’s birds were:

St. Mary’s – The 4 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were still between Pendrathen and Bar Point.

St. Agnes – 2 Siberian Chiffchaffs and 12 Linnets, the latter is a scarce bird on Scilly in winter.

St. Martin’s – 2 Slavonian Grebes between Higher Town Quay and the Eastern Isles.

Sunday’s birds were:

Samson – A Black Duck was seen briefly off-shore.

St. Mary’s – The 4 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Common Gulls, 2 Greenshanks and a Whimbrel were at Pendrathen. A Sanderling, 11 Ringed Plovers and 2 Black Redstarts were at Porthloo. 3 Greenshanks & 2 Redshanks were at Porth Hellick, a Greenshank was in Old Town Bay and 22 Meadow Pipits were on the Airfield.

Eastern Isles – 100+ Kittiwakes.

Monday’s birds were:

Samson – 3 Spoonbills and a Black Duck was seen briefly off-shore.

Tresco – 2 Black-necked Grebes were east of Carn Near.

St. Martin’s – 2 Slavonian Grebes between Higher Town Quay and the Eastern Isles.

St. Mary’s – A Great Northern Diver was at Porth Mellon, 5 Black Redstarts were at Porthcressa/Little Porth, another was on Porthloo Beach and one was at Shark’s Pit.
