St Mary’s – What an amazing day for herons on Scilly today!! It will stand out as a Little Bittern and a Squacco Heron were found today. The former it turns out, had been seen yesterday in flight over Lower Moors but was not known about until today after which it was seen on Shooters Pool before spending most of the day in the ditch at Rose Hill. The Squacco Heron was seen in flight over Higher Moors but settled in the ditch at the seaward end of Porth Hellick occasionally feeding on the beach. Also new in today was the Woodchat Shrike on Porth Hellick. At least three Golden Orioles were on the island today and the female Garganey remained on Lower Moors at Shooters Pool. At least two Night Herons remained in the Lower Moors area, although one was seen at Porth Hellick beach in mid afternoon. The Common Crane started the day at Higher Moors but soon moved to St Agnes where it spent the rest of the day.

Bryher –  A Purple Heron flew over Shipman Head Down during the afternoon and two Golden Orioles were on the island along with five Tree Pipits and a Dunlin and a Spotted Flycatcher.

St Martin’s –  The Short-toed Lark was seen again in flight in the Great Bay area and a Wryneck was seen near Little Arthur Farm Cafe.
