St. Mary’s – The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper & the Lapwing were still on Porth Hellick Pool, a Green Sandpiper & 2 Greenshanks were at Lower Moors and 2 Mediterranean Gulls were off the Garrison.

At sea – A Wilson’s Storm-petrel was seen southeast of Giant’s Castle from the Scillonian III at midday. Birds seen from the Scillonian III on the return trip from St. Mary’s to Penzance (on the Scilly side) were: 4 European Storm-petrels, a Cory’s, a Great, 6 Sooty an 175 Manx Shearwaters.

Birds seen on the daytime Birders’ Special pelagic trip included 10+ Wilson’s Storm-petrels, 120+ European Storm-petrels, 9 Great Shearwaters, 2 Cory’s Shearwater, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, a Balearic Shearwater, a Sabine’s Gull and 2 Great Skuas. Also seen were 2 Ocean Sunfish and Blue Shark was caught, tagged and released.

The season’s total for Wilson’s Storm-petrels  seen on the M.V. Sapphire pelagic trips is now 96! Surely we will score a century this year, Sunday’s trip was the 22ndconsecutive pelagic and which the “big three” have been seen, i.e. Wilson’s Storm-petrel, Cory’s Shearwater and Great Shearwater.
