Monday 7th September 2015 IoS Bird Sightings

St. Agnes – A Paddyfield Warbler showed briefly in the scrub at the east end of the campsite. Also on the island were: a Teal, 2 Ruffs, a Common Snipe, 2 Common Sandpipers, a Merlin, a Turtle Dove, a Tree Pipit, a Yellow Wagtail, 14 White Wagtails, 2 Whinchats, 2 Garden Warblers and 2 Common Whitethroats.

Tresco – A Pectoral Sandpiper, 2 Ruffs, a Spotted Redshank, a Knot and 4 Siskins.

Bryher – A Tree Pipit, a Yellow Wagtail, 3 Whinchats, 2 Spotted Flycatchers, a Pied Flycatcher and a Garden Warbler.

St. Mary’s – 3 Green Sandpipers were on Porth Hellick Pool and 2 were in Lower Moors.

Bishop Rock – A Pied Flycatcher.

At sea – A short-range pelagic trip was very quiet for birds but spectacular for other marine life. Only 5 European Storm-petrels, 4 Great Skuas and a Mediterranean Gull were seen, but there were 20+ Common Dolphins, good views of a Minke Whale and a record number of 17 Blue Sharks were caught, tagged and released.
